I've been through the mill, but hey, who hasn't? I don't subscribe to that theory about how people enter your life for a reason. In fact, most things are random and that's the glory of it all. The chance encounter, the life-changing moment, the bowling ball that hops the lane---I hope I never get tired of it. Predestination? You can have it. Give me chaos with all its disorder and beauty.

I joke a lot. Maybe too much.
I have two amazing, successful adult children. (successful? One of them has her own wikipedia entry, which is more than her old man can say!)
I love politics. I am combative but only on issues. Even people who dislike my--er--pugnacity often become good friends. We still disagree, but that's life.
I am intensely loyal. If you're my friend, I will always have your back. Even if you're wrong, I won't say it in public. (I will tell you privately, but that's just being a good friend, yes?)
I am deeply competitive. I played bridge competitively for years, I've competed at a number of sports (none lately, however). I want to win. It isn't personal. I'll still love you as I'm kicking the crap out of you.
I love humor. Marx Brothers, Laurel & Hardy, Monty Python, Kathy Griffin, Wanda Sykes, Stephen Wright, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart. Make me laugh and I'll hump your leg.
I love dogs. Ethel, my sweet baby girl beagle, died in April; I am still heartbroken. But Martyn D. Dogg, a mix of black lab and dalmatian, is my confidant and pal. He is pictured here, as is she. I can't bear to take down her picture. It's all I have left.
I love to write. I let it go for years, but have returned to it with a vengeance. I am a little less than halfway through a large novel that I hope to get published sometime in 2010. I expect to have it done by Thanksgiving at the latest. It's a black comedy about a lot of people behaving very badly. I find evil funny most of the time.
Except Republican evil. That's usually not funny, unless you're Michele Bachmann, in which case it's hilarious. Oh, and Sarah Palin too. A true gift for comedy that woman has.
I used to sing with choral groups: the Oratorio Society of New York for 15 years, the Richmond (Virginia) Symphony Chorus for 6 years, and the Richmond Gay/Lesbian chorus, now sadly defunct.
I've been married (to a lesbian, don't ask---lol), had two long-term relationships (about 7 years each) and am currently single.

My physical type tends to be the very lean, tall type. But having said that, there isn't anyone I would reject out of hand. At this stage of my life, clicking with someone on emotional and intellectual levels means more to me than sex. Which is not to say sex is unimportant---I love it, but it isn't everything anymore. And yes, it was once, but that was then. I've ususally been with men older than me, but I wouldn't rule out a younger guy either. Like Mrs. Madrigal said, "Dear, I have no objection to anything."

Well, not anything. It is important to me that a guy have a good self-image and take reasonably good care of himself. All the rest, as the Talmud says, is commentary.
