Just a guy looking to hang out really! I've just moved to Boston not too long ago, and I'm down to meet new people, hang out at bars, play sports (I particularly enjoy tennis and running), and cook (mainly because I love food, honestly). I'm also a musician, so I spend a good amount of time hunting down jazz events as well as finding myself frequently at orchestra concerts and organ recitals. What this translates into, for most people, is that I frequently am always doing something different on the weekends. This is generally true, except in those cases when I am in my room watching star trek movies and star trek episodes from the various series on Netflix, an event which happens with stunning regularity in my life on the weekends. What can I say? Not even I can toss up watching--or watching for the 40th time-- the greatest sci-fi series made in the 20th century. More recently in TV history, I am mourning the impending loss of "Parks and Rec" (What the fuck is NBC thinking?) in addition to watching ABCs' "Scandal," but I'm pretty convinced that not even I am old enough to watch the crazy sex-laden betrayals that happen on Scandal
Since my alma mater is the great, unmatched-in-glory University of Notre Dame, I am frequently at ND bars during the football season, which is something that doesn't get me into a lot of trouble with the locals here in Boston. Instead, I find more often that my love for the Philadelphia Eagles draws the ire of the locals here, but--let these Patriots fans say what they will--at least we don't have star players implicated in murder intrigues.
Most people will say that I am a guy with a pretty good sense of humor, which is a compliment that I treasure. In return, I am grateful for the many friends that I have in my life who incentivize my decision never to take my life too seriously. And who could take my life--the life of a PhD student in the humanities--seriously? Compared to most of my twenty-something friends who chose the more financially reliable professions, they already own cars; some own houses; their work days end before happy hour starts (although there are NO happy hours in MA! What barbarism!). By contrast, I own books (some say too many books!), have been able to maintain for the last five years a steady relationship with my macbook pro on which I've written about every issue that I care about, and I have time to read the paper and compete at parties for being one of the people most informed about current events. I can honestly say that I wouldn't trade this life for the world. Well, maybe I'd trade this life for employment after graduation; actually, yes, I would, but for nothing else.
