Graeme Lewsey is a sparkplug on the gold medal Melbourne crew. He was thrilled that this winning boat was able to come together, despite a few unusual challenges.

You've just finished your race. How do you feel?
Amazing. It's been winter in Australia, so we've come from training in 2 degree celsius weather in a lake full of swans in the pitch dark at 6 o'clock in the morning to warm, sunny weather here in Montreal.

To come all this way after such challenging training to win a medal is exactly what we wanted to do, so it feels absolutely amazing. We came in a fairly good distance in front of the second place crew.

Congratulations! How long have you been training as a crew?
This particular crew has been training together for the last six months, but with one of our crew members in Sydney, we've only been able to train together as a full crew for a total of five weekends.

Absolutely great to see an article on gay rowing - good pictures, but most impressed on the insightful commentary!

I was in Montreal rowing myself and you seemed to catch the mood there!
