Inside the International Gay Rodeo

What do you say to animal rights activists who believe that rodeos treat animals with cruelty?
I say if you think that about our rodeos you've never been to one. I invite any animal-rights activist to come and see what we do. We don't stand for cruelty to any animal. Our organization even has an animal welfare policy that states that we are strongly opposed to abuse of animals and we go to great lengths to ensure that our environment is safe to animal and human participants alike.
Has the success of the movie "Brokeback Mountain" affected membership at all?
Of course it brought the idea of rodeo riding and gay cowboys to the public's attention. I'm not sure that it caused a spike in membership, though. But at some of the events, such as the [gay] rodeo in Fort Lauderdale recently, we had so much media coverage you can't imagine.

It started with C/W dancing. Then I went to a straight rodeo here in Lakeside,Ca., loved it. The following week I went to the gay rodeo with my straight freinds, we all had the greatest time. You could say I was a closeted cowboy. Straight or Gay I love'em. I've never had more fun, met so many really nice people and travelled so much, just to be at rodeo- gone all the way to Australia. These people work hard, play hard and love hard. And they're hot as hell! I aint kissed so many men in all my life, and given a bit more on occassion...uhum.
