And sometimes they come on land. TNYA members enjoy a night out at pride.

Getting Involved in Masters Swimming
If you live in New York City and want to get involved, check out the Team New York Aquatics web site for details. And don't be afraid that you're too anything— too out of shape, too fat, too old, too land-bound—to join. Like most GLBT teams, TNYA prides itself on being all-inclusive. To quote the web site, "We welcome swimmers of every ability, sexual orientation, race, creed, status, and age (although you must be over 19, in keeping with US Masters regulations)." Sorry, 18-year-olds, but trust us, time flies!

If you don't live in New York City, visit IGLA's teams section to find a GLBT swim team near you. And if you don't find one, check out IGLA's club development section to find out how to start your own GLBT swim club.

Finally took another look at this article and remembered to say, as a dedicated TNYA teammate, that some of us fall into the "middle ground" in a way; we are not the fasted or the youngest guys on the team, but we still do at least some competitions to motivate us to stay fit, do our best, and develop our social networks on the team and with other competing teams. In meets, you really compete against your self, so while you may not be a winner, you can never really be a loser. Go TNYA!
