Gay Team Spotlight: San Diego Bulldogs

The Bulldogs formed in 1998 and is sanctioned by the USA Wrestling organization. It joins just a handful of other predominately gay wrestling clubs that exist in the United States, including ones in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York.
One of the highlights for teammates came about last year when 10 Bulldogs traveled to Chicago for the Gay Games VII. Several took home medals. "It was a blast," Lines recalls.
While the team is predominantly gay, the Bulldogs attracts an eclectic mix of residents from throughout the Southern California region. The roster includes a couple of female wrestlers and a few straight men, including a Marine from Camp Pendleton.
"We don't discriminate," Lines says, chuckling.
The 33-year-old Lines is no stranger to the sport. He was a competitive wrester in his junior high and high school years, and found it benefited him physically and psychologically.
"It helped my self-esteem and brought me out of my shell," he said.

I agree with Kevin Ho. Wrestling is NOT sexy. I wrestled in junior high and high school competitively, and I resent the sport being stereotyped as an excuse for guys to have sex with each other. Once I hit the mat, my intention was to conquer and win. Sex was not the issue, even if my opponent was cute. Guys on the team would often fool around with each other after the matches, but I never wrestled for sexual gratification and I resent those who do.
