Because everyone knows liberals don't have a sense of humor... so of course any humor expressed on here by a non-liberal will be met with a confused / baffled response by the liberals here on RJ.

Well thats not entirely true, they only laugh if they are the ones making the jokes. It was like with Ms Palin all was fair game, because they felt threatend by her, and put all their X4 in a circle as a result and stated to attack her, and "her family" too. While they was doing it was all well and good and funny too so they thought.

But the minute some-one touched on a truth about Obama, that was not on or funny, and lord forbid if you touched his family, yet they where ready to sell Ms Palin's family into slavery.

They love freedom of speech so long as it is them talking and laughing.

MunchingZombie saidOther than occasionally PJ O'Rourke, are there any funny people on the right?

I ask not to be a dick, I just have never heard any funny political humor from the right.

Even that Half Hour News Hour bit... The name is obviously a rip off of a 20 year old Chris Morris bit and the jokes are just talking points dressed up with a laugh track. Please, people of the right with a sense of humor, give me something funny.

The Zucker brothers (Airplane, The Naked Gun series, etc.) are well known conservatives.

Is their humour right wing? It´s one thing for a comic to have personal right wing views and quite another for them to be producing funning right wing comedy

Yeah, I liked some of what the Zucker brothers have done (the Kentucky Fried Movie is something every 13-year old needs to see over and over again). But they don't really do political humor. And Dennis Miller is just awful.

You know who is doing right-wing political humor these days? Gallagher. And he is fucking insane.

Wait, there is actually a debate on here as to whether or not Fox News' very own 'Daily Show' is ... funny?

I mean, I know humor is subjective, but the obnoxious male-dominated laugh track alone makes it unwatchable and embarrassing. There are plenty of jokes that could be had for the right, but none of them were in that show.

. . . Evelyn Waugh was scathingly funny . . . and he was without a doubt an ultramontane (look it up, Jeff) conservative . . .

. . . as for censorship, the prize surely goes to the Hallmark Twins . . .

southbeach1500 saidRJ has now gotten to the point where the looney liberals on here want to determine what comedy is permitted and what isn't.... Kind of goes along with their idea of controlling what we eat, what kind of light bulbs will be allowed in our homes.....

First, when I find a funny Conservative, I will laugh. Unfortunately, most of them are grim as executioners. Does a funny Republican exist? southbeach sure isn't a good example.

Second, Liberals don't want to control what we eat. But rather, what is served to us. If you want unregulated and poisoned food set before you, then fine, do eat up. Republicans want company profits first, public safety last.

Democrats want safe food on our tables, not corporate profits above all else. What do YOU choose?

You don't exactly know what you're talking about here. First of all, nobody is being forced to buy any particular item from anyone. Greed in the free market will automatically cause private businesses to want to get their products recognized by government safety standards which creates an incentive for people to buy those particular products. This competition will automatically produce other companies to want to do the same thing so that the verified guys don't get all the business. So you see, it usually all ends up correct anyway.

You must have missed my point, no surprise. "He is SUBJECTIVELY funny", meaning it depends on your sense of humor as to whether or not you find him funny. A person doesn't have to find his humor funny to admit he has been successful as a comedian. Just because he's not funny to YOU doesn't mean he's not successful. Obviously MANY people find him funny.

How can ANYONE be that self-loathing? I'm hoping this is all a trick. That when Coulter gets there she finds out it's a mass stoning followed by firing squad (small caliber -- maybe low paying guests shoot BB guns, higher tier shoot .22, one of the highest levels .357, and maybe the largest donor a rocket). That's the only way this group could redeem themselves.

No, YOU have missed the point (no surprise).
I have laughed at right-wing humor occasionally. Leftists can be ridiculous too. But Dennis Miller is simply angry, and that's what poisons too many attempts at humor on the right. It's all sneering sarcasm. Humor depends on the surprise of the unexpected---and the instant recognition of the truth revealed therein. But there can be no surprise, no jolt, when the 'joke' is ploddingly obvious. And what makes it plodding is that it's too angry to be deft.

Watch Jon Stewart sometime. You'll see what I mean. Or you won't, in which case you'll never get it.

Are you really going to sit on your position that Dennis MIller is NOT a successful comedian? Because if you are, I would like you to describe a successful one.

I'll say it again very slowly, so even you can understand what I mean. In fact, i'll use an example.

I don't find Bill Maher funny at all. He is offensive to me, but that's just my personal opinion. However, I would NEVER claim that he isn't a successful comedian. Anybody who can manage to host their own show on HBO (like Dennis Miller used to have) and who has name recognition is undoubtedly successful. Just because I don't find Maher funny doesn't mean I will say he isn't successful.

Once again, just because YOU don't find Dennis Miller to be funny doesn't mean he isn't successful. My point stands.

Oh, I get it. You mean he makes money. I thought you meant he was successful at comedy.

Okay, he makes money. Wow. So like all rightists, that's the prism you see absolutely everything through. All righty then.

You really are dim aren't you? Just follow me for a second:

A "comedian" (funny or not to you) is able to make a great living at doing COMEDY. Wouldn't that lead one to believe that in order for masses of people to spend their money to see that COMIC perform over many years, many people find him FUNNY? It's hard for a comedian to make the kind of money Miller has made in his career without hoardes of people finding his brand of comedy very FUNNY.

What you're saying, it seems, is that "okay, Dennis Miller has made a lot of money being a comedian, but he isn't funny." Uhh, how would that work? If his job is telling jokes, and he is paid a lot to do that job, wouldn't that mean that lots of people find him funny?

This concept is so obvious it hurts for me to have to explain it to you over and over again like a 5 year old child.

You really are a moron, aren't you. Keep doubling down on the stupid.
Your equation is money = funny. This tells anyone who is paying attention exactly what your warped scale of values is.

Even my children, when they were five, were smarter than that.

This is painful to have to keep repeating myself.

What is Dennis Miller's job? He tells jokes, correct?

Okay, think of it like a lawyer. If a lawyer weren't successful at his craft, he wouldn't make any money would he? Maybe all the people he beats in court, or the criminals he locks up aren't fans of his, but nobody would dare say that he wasn't successful at what he did. Chances are, a lawyer this good is going to make a lot of money because regardless of one person, or a group of peoples' opinions are of how he operates, he IS successful.

Same concept applies to Dennis Miller. If his job is to tell jokes, and enough people want to watch him tell those jokes that he is able to get his own syndicated show, that equals success. If NOBODY THOUGHT HE WAS FUNNY, HE WOULDN'T HAVE ANY EXPOSURE, AND HE WOULDN'T BE PAID THE MONEY HE IS PAID SIMPLY TO TELL JOKES!!!

Money doesn't equal funny, I NEVER said that. Money = success at your craft for performers/comedians. Dennis Miller is a comedian, and is paid lots of money to perform his comedy. Tell me, WHY WOULD ANYBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND PAY A COMEDIAN MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IF THEY WEREN'T FUNNY?????

Again, just because YOU don't find him funny doesn't mean that NOBODY finds him funny. Can you grasp that concept???

Please, if there are any other people on this thread who can understand what I am saying speak up. This is truly tiring.
