I live in FL, and as jprichva said earlier, I seem to recall a small local newspaper more or less "outing" Crist during his election campaign. About the same time, the Libertarian candidate for Governor -- who had been friends with Crist for decades -- brought this up, rather casually, in a radio interview. It never got much traction in the media --not that it necessarily should. (But I don't think this will be the case should Crist get the VP nod. It won't be ignored.)
It did, however, put Crist in the position of answering the question. So he did, at a campaign reception, where he "announced" he wasn't gay. (And the applause that followed sounded stupid, at least to me.)
Whenever a question re: gay rights came up, Crist typically said he was a "live and let live" sort of guy.
