xassantex saidthe Ideapad560 has HDRadeon 5730 discrete graphics and hdmi port.
    quote:
"The IdeaPad Y560 is available with Corei3, Core i5 or Core i7 processors. All models are well equipped 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 discrete graphics, a 6-in-1 Card Reader, HDMI, eSATA, ExpressCard slot, 3 USB 2.0 ports, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and, of course, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS"

thanks for the feedback, this is actually helping.

i know the macbook pro is a great machine. I've considered it . I just don't really go for the "gated city" mentality, that's all.

i don't do spreadsheets et al but will need it for video editing , sound editing
    and gaming.
I probably won't move it around that much which is why i was attracted to the Asus 17", 8 pounds box. ( + it has the ATI 5870 ) .

btw, the lenovo has 3D but apparently it kind of sucks.

think i'll stay away from toshiba considering the info here above .
I had looked at the Vaio line, but the models i liked were way above budget.

well if your looking for a gaming comp you have to get windows, since most of the new games coming out arent compatible with macs like for example Guilds War 2 and some other game (the game looks awesome!!). Also I think ive seen a vaio laptop with an i7 processor and 8gb of ram for around 1700 at frys or best buy. The battery life on it was horrible though only 2hrs!

xassantex saidi'm sure you had no mean intention .
i just find it funny how those things slip out our mouth - or fingers- sometimes.
    thanks for the opinions btw.

I think it's just my mood today. It's been very unproductive and feeling like I've been fighting wars all week (and it's only Tuesday for me)

oh you have your own little private irak ? how nice.

to A_1991 : battery life on most gaming laptops sucks.
blame the usually voracious graphics . Plus they heat up like crazy, you can
play starcraft 2 and fry an egg all at once... which can be practical .
i wanna play games , but not only that, which is why i didn't consider Alienware ( plus the fact they're $$$$) .

Because of their dependability, IBM/Lenovo has a number of corporate clients who lease ThinkPads in bulk. They also turn them in regularly and IBM/Lenovo then sells them on line at decent discounts. If price is an issue you might want to check out their offerings:

made up my mind after more searching, reviews, forums ... and ordered:

    ASUS G73 jw xt1
    i7 740QM
    8gb ram
    full hd nvidia gtx 460m , 1.5gb ddr5
    500gb hd
( might upgrade to a solid state later on , when prices drop a bit).,

ASUS is ranked amongst the 3-4 best companies for reliability , service etc. along lenovo .
-- >2 year warranty including accidental damage.

    $1599.00 price tag on tigerdirect.

what changed my mind over the lenovo, was the ATI 5730 on the ideapad.
i read so much about ati graphics issues i opted for nvidia.

now i have to wait. didn't want to spend another $50 for 24 h shipment.

halltd saidMy two cents would be for the Lenovo.

Make that four cents for the Lenovo. They build excellent systems that you'll be able to use (and abuse!) for a long time.

My X200 Tablet is akin to a Ferrari (especially since I run Ubunto 10.04).

Lenovo's are extremely well engineered and built tough.
