dont hate on me just yet, but I recall recently reading an article denouncing the "great pomegranate". Apparently it isn't such a super food as people once thought.

    from wikipedia

    "Potential health benefits

In preliminary laboratory research and human pilot studies, juice of the pomegranate was effective in reducing heart disease risk factors, including LDL oxidation, macrophage oxidative status, and foam cell formation,[34][35][36] all of which are steps in atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.
In a limited study of hypertensive patients, consumption of pomegranate juice for two weeks was shown to reduce systolic blood pressure by inhibiting serum angiotensin-converting enzyme.[37] Juice consumption may also inhibit viral infections[38] while pomegranate extracts have antibacterial effects against dental plaque.[39][40]
While one study showed that, in a test tube, extracts of the fruit can inhibit the proliferation of human breast cancer cells[41], no studies have shown that eating pomegranates has any effect on the development of breast cancer in humans.
Despite research to date being preliminary to possible approval of a health claim on product labels, manufacturers and marketers of pomegranate juice have liberally used evolving research results for product promotion, especially for putative antioxidant health benefits. In February 2010, the FDA issued a Warning Letter to one such manufacturer, POM Wonderful, for using published literature to make illegal claims of unproven antioxidant and anti-disease benefits."

They're sooo yummy! I had one this morning. It was one of the juiciest ones of the season. Eating them is part of the fun! It's like a game trying to consume as many as possible without having them fall onto the plate lol.

I love them. And the good news is that they now sell special gadgets that make it easy to extract the contents.

I tried to eat fresh pomegranate one time, and after biting down on those nasty, gritty little seeds, I knew I'd never do it again. But, I do enjoy pomegranate juice and pomegranate molasses.

[quote][cite]afkaway said[/cite]I bought nine the other day for three dollars. I fucking love pomegranate season.[/quote

Wow here I can get one for $2. Love pomegranates but its makes a lot of mess while trying to peel off. Also never wear a white T-shirt when eating one, the stains never go away.
