I was very indecisive as to wear to post this topic..
I am trying to build muscle,
I lost over 175lbs, and I still want to lose more weight, I used to weigh 375, and now I weigh 200lbs, During this whole weight loss process, I never lifted weights, and last month I started lifting and boy I couldn't even do a single pushup, now after a month I can do 8 consecutive pushups,

I joined a gym, I am doing 20 min cardio before lifting weights, and I alternate weights, Monday - Wed - Friday = Upper Body
Tuesday - Thursday - Saturday = Core and Lower Body

I also bought whey protein, see I am gaining muscle, I can see that clearly, but I don't seem to shrink in my waist size, I am scared to step on the scale, I know I probably packed on pounds, not necessarily fat, but muscle. I know I will go nuts if I gain a pound, so thats why I am going to rely on measuring my waist... and so far its been the same size for a month...

Like I said I jog 20 min cardio and fat burn mode (HR Monitor) and then I lift weights for about an hours... and i've been doing this for a month, same waist size and bigger muscles..

    What am I doing wrong?

First of all, congrats on the weight loss!

Second, you're not doing anything wrong. It takes time for the body to adapt to change. You've only been lifting for a month. That's not enough time for the body to make noticeable changes. Keep up the hard work and give it another couple of months. You will see results.

I'd also recommend doing your cardio either on non-lifting days, or after lifting. It takes more energy to lift heavy things so it's better if you are fresh when lifting.

Keep up the good work and don't let yourself get discouraged!

Nothing. You're just impatient, and judging by your non complete profile, a bit lazy.

These sorts of changes take weeks, months and years. You didn't wake up a miserable fat ass in one morning. It took years of doing everything wrongly to get there, and it will take considerable time to become something else.

Study up on HIIT, which is more effective at fat burn, and make sure you eat enough, and give yourself time to recover.

You've made great strides bud! Amazing work. Now comes an even harder part... Patience. Waiting for the results of some body sculpting to come. I, too have had these same questions. Muscle building and sculpting your body takes time to show through. I'm learning this the hard way, too. The fat above needs time to go away for the muscles to show. Also, losing weight does have some muscle-losing effect, too. Keep it up, add more weight, try the HIIT cardio(look it up..., apparently it does burn fat and you lose less muscle). I have been doing this also. Start slow, it can really kick your ass. Keep us posted and keep up the good work! Tonyicon_biggrin.gif
