Hey guys, I wanna ask your opinions here.

I've been looking to make a change in location for quite some time, and being in a transitionary career phase, now is the perfect time to do it. I stepped down from my career as a FT restaurant manager a few months ago, going back to serving/bartending/shift managing while I look to start a new career in the Marketing/Advertising/PR field (where my degree is in). For the past few months the plan had been to move in with my cousin in L.A., transfer with the restaurant I work at to a location out there, and begin the job search while starting a new chapter in my life (o hai cliche). Saving you the details, that plan did not work out and while my cuz and I are still close, I will not be moving in with her.

So now I've been looking at apartments, too. However, since I don't have to move to Santa Monica now, the prospect of San Diego has also come into play. I've wanted to live there ever since I was 15 (the first time I was out there), and given the fact that I can transfer virtually anywhere with my company to have some income while I get a new career off the ground, my gut feeling on moving there is becoming stronger.

To make a long story short (hah, not easy with me), I was wondering if any of you guys could offer some insight on which of those cities may be better for a young professional looking to start a career in Mktg/Advertising. Also, fun things/tips on lifestyle for a gay man in those towns, as well as good places to rent an apt (where to live/where to avoid, etc). I've been to both multiple times, and am excited about moving to that area...now if I could just make up my mind! I guess I'm afraid of making the wrong decison, heh.

Thanks in advance for any input! icon_biggrin.gif

oh, I am in the same boat as you... well kinda.

I just moved to LA and just gave my two weeks notice. I want to get out of the financial services industry and do something more creative. I've also been crashing at random friends and families places since I don't want to pay rent just yet. I been on craigslist everyday to see where the decent rentals are located.

West hollywood, hollywood, silver lake, pasadena, melrose, and some other west LA neighborhoods are gayish. They are pricey tho. I think a newer apartment ranges between $1,400 to 1,800 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment/condo but that includes parking, washer/dryer, security. I do see cheaper places in these areas most people would think are just fine that are cheaper by $400 or so.

In terms of job market, I know companies in LA are ramping up their hiring in all departments based on my conversation with internal and external recruiters. I am not sure how it is in SD.

    Goodluck in your endeavors.
