  First time I'm doing such campaigning, so I hope I'm doing it right and not offending anybody.

  Does the slate for MOTD clear at the end of each day? If that is so, then you've timed this promotion badly. There is already one candidate with a large number of votes. Promote your friend for tomorrow's MOTD.
