Does it offend you when guys talk about the homoeroticism of wrestling?

  Having run WrestleMen.com for 15 years, and produced a documentary on wrestling (http://www.wrestlingfilm.com), it amazes me how sometimes even gay men will get up in arms if anyone says wrestling has a homoerotic element. Maybe they are confusing public competitions (where the only thing on your mind is not getting your ass kicked) with private wrestling or the visual aspects of wrestling.
  
  So here is my question. Are you able to understand and appreciate those who find wrestling to be a turn-on, or will you always condemn them?

  I suppose some people might get a bit bothered by the "he who taps out, bottoms" meme behind much of homoeroticized wrestling (NakedKombat.com type stuff)
  
  Of course, never minding that in almost all cases, that sort of wrestling is consensual and understood between the two combatants.

  I get some mixed impressions from your setup to this question.
  
  It is hard for me not to associate two guys wrestling, legitimate or casual, as not having some homoerotic elements. It doesn't bother me that that is my perception. It also does not mean that I think all wrestlers are gay. It is just there as an element.
  
  Do some people get turned on by wrestling or fantasies about it? Sure. But not everybody who wrestles does.
  
  I have had thoughts of wrestling with various guys as a form of foreplay, but I usually discard them because the element of pain does not appeal to me.
  
  If it turns you on, let it. What is wrong with that?

  I know a lot of gay guys who do not find wrestling homoerotic, I hope you didn't misinterpret. I also know a lot of straight guys who only find men hot when they are wrestling.

  In general I think it's a waste of energy to be offended by the perceptions of others. I mean, really? Some guys get torqued up when the wind blows; you can't blame a compass for pointing north.
  
  Personally, I think that there is some veiled homoeroticism in all competitive sports. Athletics fills that primal need for men to compete and dominate over their peers -- it seems natural that men who are sexually attracted to other men would identify with a sexual element in sports, especially contact sports, and most especially wresting which incorporates a lot of homoerotic elements:

  really? generally if im watching mma or anything related its always my straight friend who is calling them gay before i even have the chance. of course its kinda gay. arm wrestling is kinda gay. any time 2 grown men in various states of undress are grunting and touching each other there is faggotry afoot. who the fuck cares. if someone called me a fag while i was sparring (like in an aggressive manner) theoretically i would knock them out and then ask them who the fag is now. but only a jackass would do that.

  Wrestling was my sport in high school and college, and I'm extremely protective of and loyal to it. I consider wrestling for sex (e.g., submission wrestling) or as a sex fantasy to be an affront to my sport. I can understand that some guys homoeroticize wrestling, and I suppose that's their choice--but I will NEVER participate in any of that stuff. I throw up in my mouth every time I see wrestling wannabe's wearing singlets and acting out. Yuk!
