It seems more like 13-14, but I couldn't tell you for sure.

My bathroom scales fluctuates wildly depending on when during the day I check it....I'm consistently 11% in the morning and 8% in the afternoon. I'm not sure why that is unless I'm dehydrated in the mornings? Which would be more accurate?

    What about overhydration?

    icon_smile.gif

Not sure that it is possible to be overly hydrated. You would eventually piss out the fluids. Your body tries to maintain fluid balance eventually.

yeah unless you have some kidney failure. icon_sad.gif (not me. I was just saying a fact)

I'm pretty sure it is the most accurate and pretty non-invasive procedure. mine took like 14 mins....

granted I live in south fl so it wasn't difficult to find it. I wouldnt know anywhere out of state o.O

Hydration makes big difference in both body fat & weight measurements.

In morning after a night of asperating, I weigh less but bf # show higher percentage. In evening, after a day of drinking water, I weigh more but bf # show lower.

Electrical Impedance (EI) is the method that a lot of those handheld or weight scale fat testers work. The less hydrated you are the slower the electrical current can run through your body to assess your lean body mass. Adipose tissue holds less water than muscle. But if your muscles are slightly dehydrated from a night's sleep the electrical current that runs through your body will not be as fluid as if you were well hydrated. This is why the reading can be off in the morning when you are slightly dehydrated. And the reading can be more accurate after replacing some of the fluids after not having anything for six to however many hours you sleep. More water in your system allows the current to flow more freely and thus gives you a lower body fat reading. Less hydrated muscle tissue reads similarly to adipose tissue. Hence, higher body fat readings.

Thanks, that makes sense and is very helpful. I drink a lot of water during the day so consider that my "normal" state so I guess that means the afternoon, hydrated readings are more accurate.

A few years ago when I was racing bicycles and really hitting the gym hard I was 7.2%. The method was underwater weighing and measuring residual lung capacity by inhaling and exhaling gas mixtures. Underwater weighing is excellent, but some places just use tables to guess at the residual lung capacity, and that introduces errors that offset the accuracy of the underwater method. At the time, I also measured using calipers to calibrate the caliper measurement.

Right now I'm at 12% using calipers, but I'm planning to get lower, definitely under 10%, maybe lower. I also compare with bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Although that is subject to variation because of hydration, etc., I can get generally decent agreement if I measure under consistent conditions.

And Kanaka24 - man up and get measured, or I'll give you grief icon_smile.gif

heybreaux said I noticed a couple of other posts cite low % and no cardio, seems counterintuitive, hmmm...

When I lived in Chicago I radically changed my diet (a very strict paleo-like diet). I wasn't doing a single lick of cardio, literally absolutely zero. With the diet change alone I had visible abs for the first time in my life and the lowest body fat I've ever been at.

Mine is 4.7% and just got it measured a few weeks ago when I started seeing a new trainer. I eat low to no saturated fat, no break, milk, etc and mostly lean protein. Lots of Japanese food :-)
