    Hello everyone,

Out of frustration and a lack of knowledge, I thought I'd give posting to forum a shot, see what you folks have to offer.

Back in April, I broke my left clavicle in multiple places, and had to have surgery to fix it.
A month and a half later, I'm still recovering (another 3 months left), and can't use my left arm for anything---all forms of working out that aren't cardio, especially diving, are out of the question.

I was hoping to hear some ideas from those who might have been in a similar situation, or those who are creative enough to offer some pointers: I hate being inactive, so I want to workout, but what to do?!?!

What I do now is: bike and stair master at the gym; walk/hike with the dog; play with the dog...that's about it, and i'm DYING FOR MORE.

Like I said, I can't do weights, nor can I run or swim, as both aggravate the shoulder area.

Looking forward to hearing from you all. Thanks!

Seek a qualified professional in your area who knows a lot about dealing with postrehab (might take some research, but I'm sure you're up for it). I'm certain there are quite a few in your area. S/he can help you develop a program that will help you accelerate your recovery. Also be sure that this person speaks with your doc to avoid contraindicated exercises.
Lastly, try to be patient. You've experienced a significant injury, but there are still loads of possibilities.

    thanks for the responses.
at my last appt my doctor said i could begin physical therapy in mid-july. the bone wasn't/isn't ready as of last week.
i'm trying to be patient...that's the most difficult thing about this situation. my training seemed to be going so well before my accident, so now i'm worried it's all gone down the tubes, and i'm antsy to get back on top of it. of course, that doesn't change the fact i need to be patient....ugh.....

joeindallas, how'd you break your clavicle in 7 places? i broke mine in 4, and have a screw/rod shish kababbing all the pieces. there was talk of a plate being used, but my doctor wouldn't know what he'd use until i was cut open. in the end he used the screw/rod. the pin head is really uncomfortable.
