Yeah for real! iPad 27 will feature an ultra flexible shape that you can both roll up and fold without any wear or tear...but we all know that came out in the iPad 21. The iPad 32 will introduce 4D graphics so you'll have to remember (or jot down) the place AND time of each keystroke if you want to enjoy the benefits of this new machine...not to mention if you don't, the US govt will know what you typed AND when, and they'll use it as ammo to win the office of President in the 2032 elections.

If you want to see some of the frenzy building up with the official iPad release, macrumors.com has some amusing threads. Lines are forming at stores. Several have described the queues in front of stores in the UK. One guy is going from London to NY, not clear if the only reason is to get an iPad in the US. He posted on his way to Heathrow, then on the plane.

Forgot to mention my iPad home delivery date: April 12. But I'm adding free personal engraving on the back, which adds a few weeks. That's OK, it'll be here in time to use during our projected Key West trip.

Also picked up some accessories today at the Apple Store, that I ordered online. The magnetic cover and the camera kit, that includes an SD card reader and a USB adapter. I think the light grey cover (like a platinum) will go nicely with the white iPad.

Unfortunately the card reader doesn't also work with my iPhone 4S. The plug fits, but the iPhone gives an error reading that the device isn't compatible. Don't know why that would be, maybe an iOS software update will correct that.

For those planning on receiving the iPad tomorrow and syncing with a Mac, there have been fairly recent updates to iTunes as well as Safari and Mac OS 10.7.3 Supplemental Update. Might want to do the update today in case the servers get bogged down tomorrow. I took a quick look at the update descriptions, and didn't see anything obviously related to syncing with an iOS device, but IMO always a good idea to have the latest software.

My husband & I were having lunch 90 minutes ago, and he saw a news item on the grill's TV about the lines at Apple stores to get the new iPad.

"I'm surprised you're not at our Apple store," he said to me. "What are people so excited about this time? What does this iPad do?"

So I explained what a person could do with one, with this model the best in the series so far. "Well then that might interest me," he replied. I figured this was an ideal time to break the news to him.

"Good, because we get ours in about 4 weeks."

"Yeah, right."

"Yes, right. You know I don't do lines at stores, so I ordered one online for home delivery. Plus I got it engraved for free, and that adds a few weeks. It arrives April Twelfth."

"An Easter present."

"Well, it misses Easter by four days, but it was the best I could do. We'll use it in Key West, along with the laptop, so we won't have to fight over who gets to read his e-mail."

"How did you engrave it?"

"This iPad Does NOT Belong To Cxxxx Xxxxx" (His name)

"I hate you."

"You're gonna hate me even more, because it means I can't afford this lunch, which is on you today."

"I'm trading you in as soon as I find a partner who has money."

"Why wait?"

"Because I still need the little money you do have, which is a lot less than I thought you had."

"Next time ask to see the financial statements first."

And that, ladies & gentlemen, is an almost verbatim record of our lunch conversation, telling him about getting the new iPad. And this goes on every day with us, why we have so much fun together, and people say we're about the happiest (and silliest) gay couple they know.

Do you sync it to a Mac, and did it carry over all your data from iCal, Address Book, Mail, and iPhoto pics? I also have apps backed up on my iMac through iTunes, some of which are both for iPhone & iPad. Will they also load onto the iPad?

Uh, you're cool and all that. But, take it from someone who IS intimately familiar with the personal electronics industry.

All personal electronic computing devices have advanced so that they can only be engineered in the US. Every bit of them are assembled overseas using parts that can only be made overseas.

Even more Samsung products are being assembled in China by the same company(FoxConn) that assembles for Apple despite those two companies are trying to kill each other over patents.

The AT&T iPad version shows 4G when receiving an HSPA+ signal and LTE when receiving LTE.

Bottom line: The original specs called for 4G speeds that are not provided by any carrier today. LTE-Advanced would qualify as true 4G under the definition, which we probably won't see for at least a couple of years.

On December 6, 2010, ITU-R recognized that these two technologies [Mobile WiMAX and LTE], as well as other beyond-3G technologies that do not fulfill the IMT-Advanced requirements, could nevertheless be considered "4G", provided they represent forerunners to IMT-Advanced compliant versions and "a substantial level of improvement in performance and capabilities with respect to the initial third generation systems now deployed".

Marketeers, in the US originally at T-Mobile, decided they could call their HSPA+ systems 4G based on speeds, even though they are less than LTE. AT&T followed suit, much to the annoyance of Verizon which was the first to invest in LTE. The rationale was if the rules could be bent for one, they could be bent even further for others.

Just had my IPad Stolen right from under my nose.
Gentlemen right now go make sure you have two apps installed and completely
set up on your iPad and or iPhone.

1st. A new Korean app that is called in english; "Oh my Phone", It's my understanding that this app is very accurate in tracking you item. Then spend whatever time it takes to program in and register this app, and learn what to do in the event. Not that complicated, but the apps pages are all in Korean. There is a free version and a paid version. I don't know if there is a difference.

2nd Install and set-up "Find my IPhone", Apple's own app. In the even you need it, and had it installed on both, you will be able to track your iPad online through iCloud. When you do you will have two options; "Lock down my iPad" is one, by all means do it. The second; "Wipe my data". is the other option, with no warning of the consequences if you do. IF YOU DO THIS YOU WILL CUT OFF ALL ACCESS AND TRACKING OF YOU IPAD OR IPHONE, BECAUSE IT WIPES OUT EVEN THE "FIND MY IPHONE" APP. SO IT WILL DISAPPEAR OFF YOUR SCREEN AS SOON AS YOU CLICK IT. This has to be one of the all time biggest fuckups for apple ever, it's kind of like a self destruct button. The guy at Apple described it as turning your iPad into a paper weight.
Good luck, no one should have to learn this after it happens.

I do have the Apple app to locate and disable a stolen iPhone. My husband once lost a nice flip-phone from a table, while supervising an outdoor charity yard sale. This mother distracted him, and he's pretty sure her 12-year-old daughter grabbed the phone from the table where he had been sitting until the mother drew him away. A few moments later he discovered the phone gone, as were mother & daughter, not buying anything the mother claimed she would, the only 2 who had been near that table when the phone was last seen.

I quickly called AT&T to deactivate the phone and record its ID as stolen, but it had no tracking, and no calls had yet been placed on it. It remains lost to this day, 3 years later.

It's one reason I'm having my New iPad engraved on the back. A small protection, but you never know how these thefts will play out. It seems to me the more safeguards you have the better are your chances of beating the bad guys.
