You're really not supposed to because you can rupture your ear drum if you go too far in, but I do anyway. They say you're supposed to use a tissue and clean them with you're finger.

a ruptured tympanic membrane is a bad day. when you get fluid oozing out of your ear and your hearing is gone and your face is completely numb you will probably wish you didnt do that. also...i dont even get it. you want someone to wrap a tissue around their finger and stick it in their ear? thats the worst idea ever. like...i dont even get how that would work. and if it did work...like if you were able to stick your finger in your ear. holy shit.

    Um I can.

Is it just me or is this one not so convincing as a doctor?

+1 to ear candling being absolute nonsense.

blackstrap saidholy fuck. the only thing that goes into your ears is your elbow. i cant even tell you how many people i see a week with ears fucked up 10 ways to sunday cuz they put ANYTHING AT ALL in their ears. no. stop. warm water in the shower or debrox when assessed by a medical professional and found to be necessary. dont put hydrogen peroxide in your ears.
the only reason i can think you might have an elevated t cell count is because you already have ear wax then you go and fuck around with your ear and get some shitty infection..cuz the number one cause of ottitis externa is people fucking around with their ears. or you just arent taking care of yourself and those are 2 symptoms of that. i doubt elevated t cells would cause ear wax. that makes no sense at all but i dont know fuckall about t cells.
i cant even tell you how much i fucking hate ears. every single god damn marine and sailor on the planet feels the need to stick things in their ears.

That's what Jiminy Cricket used to say!

...well, Jiminy said the part about the elbow, anyway.

Jiminy Cricket, I found the ear video with Jiminy Cricket! I also found him singing "Wish Upon A Star" and now I'm sad that I'm not at Disney World.

OP: haven't noticed any sort of correlation between ear wax build-up and CD4 counts. maybe its just the timing of things for you.

once my ear was all itchy so i was rubbing it with the palm of my hand while watching tv. i kind of cupped palm of my hand over my ear and started rubbing it in circular motions. i guess the vibration of the ear helped loosen the wax, and then a huge ball of wax fell out onto my hand. disgusting!

another time, my hearing in my right ear got blocked up. i sought medical atttention from my doctor, who filled up a huge syringe looking stainless-steel pump with a plunger, and squirted warm water into my ear. this unblocked the wax and a big ball fell onto my shoulder.

    good luck!

It may have nothing to do with your HIV status. Q-Tips don't work for everyone, particularly those with deep ear canals. Use warm water or a solution you can buy over the counter instead.

I don't know about the HIV thing but when I was younger I had really bad wax build up and I think it was called Otitis Media with Effusion. I looked it up and it said you should not treat with antibiotics because it could contribute to bacterial resistance. It went on to say that it usually clears up in time, but can also be helped by pooping your ears to allow air to reach the middle ear space. I had tubes put in when I was younger and ever since then haven't had a problem with it. Not sure if they do that procedure when you're older but before I actually got the procedure done I would lay on a heating pad and that worked A lot better then warm water in the shower.

My ENT taught me this one: A couple of drops of mineral oil in the ear to soften the wax, let it sit for a couple of hours(kind of an uncomfortable feeling), then use hydrogen peroxide to 'fizz' it out. Works great.

I use waxsol ear drops or audiclean salt water spray.
With the drops I use a dropper full and plug my ear with a piece of twisted tissue, leave it for a few minutes then pull out the tissue and the gunk usually dries enough to stick to the tissue. With the spray I have it in the shower and just spray it into my ears and clean my ears with a towel.
