Older guys, what do you wish you had known/done when you were younger?

--Buy a home as soon as you possibly can.
--Get a job that pays a lot of money. Seriously.
Working for local, state, or Federal government (in any capacity) usually provides excellent pay, benefits, and retirement, as well as job security.

I admit I wish I had come out to myself when I was younger. My god, the many "straight" guys that wanted to have sex with me when I was growing up. Man, I could have had so much sex but I didn't have the sense to take advantage of it. Also, I wish I had been more open to older guys who would have just given me a lot of money just to suck my dick. Damn I was stupid! lol. I could've gotten pleasure and gotten paid. What the hell was I thinking when I was a younger, hot, and beautiful boy.

I wish I'd placed a higher priority on being happy instead of trying to please others.

I wish I'd bought a VW '65 quad cab back in the 80's. And stock in Apple.

I wish I had starting saving earlier, investing in the stock market.
I wish I had kissed a guy before the age of 30.
I wish I started traveling around the world at a younger age.

Don't think about things too long, just do it.

I'm giving you a compliment/advice, you're hotter than your clothing. It's like trying to sell a nice house with a shitty front lawn.

live you're life the way YOU want to live it. Be true to who who are, regardless of what other people think you should be. Own you're mistakes then move on, and allow others to move on if you feel they have made mistakes concerning you.

That everything would be alright in the end; that every mistake, heartache, frustration and delay had to happen just the way it did, for me to cross paths with Bill when I did and be ready for a marvelous kind of love that, by learning from past experiences, I could navigate and embrace.

Not stressing myself out over stupid things like school, coming out earlier, being less stressed about coming out, working out, doing stuff for me and not for my family, taking a break from school after high school instead of rushing into finding a college and picking a career

I really like the advice from older men here, but I do have a quick question: where would you invest your money at at a younger age? Should you put it in a savings account, your 401k, or what? I started thinking about that recently and was hoping someone could provide some insight.

I wished I'd LISTENED to and FOLLOWED the advice that a few older gay guys gave me in my early to mid-20s.

But I suppose you can't listen to what you're not ready to hear.

If your (or anyone's for that matter) employer offers a 401(k), have some money deposited into that each pay period (that can be done automatically through the company's HR department). Also, it is a good idea to open a savings account at the same bank where your checking account is. You can transfer money each payday into that as you'll need something "liquid" (meaning money you have easy access to) for when a major expense comes up.

    1. Avoid going in to unsecured debt.
    2. Pay less attention to what other people think about you.
    3. You are responsible for your own happiness. Dont rely on others to provide it.
    4. Always wear sunscreen or avoid the sun. You will pay dearly later for abusing your skin.
    5. Always take the high road no matter how much you dont want to. You will always be better for it.
    6. No when to walk to way and know when to stand your ground. Everything is not a hill to die on but some are.
