Oh...well in that case...fire up the grill! I like my steak medium rare and seasoned but no ketchup. Ketchup disgusts me.

Grindr was good for me because when I came out I literally did not know one gay person so it was very difficult for me to meet people in that scene. Majority of people are there for hookups, but there are others that are looking for friendship. One of my closest gay friends I met on Grindr and through him I was able to meet even more people, go out to gay venues ect. So if you sift through the shit (and there's a lot of it) eventually you may find somebody after the same things as you.

Larkin saidOn Grindr, merely acknowledging someone's existence means "Gimme a handy-jay in the bathroom" or whatever. I don't have a lot of sympathy for these "HOLY SHIT you get HOOKUP requests on GRINDER!?" posts.

That said, when you're on a site like this one - or any other generally not-cruisy type gay social sites - it's still a pretty common phenomenon to have people respond to basic human kindness as though it's an invitation to sex. Some gay guys are used to getting shot down so much that simply not being shot down seems like a green light.

    +1

Lets talk about that... Even on here, I may message someone and tell them that they're handsome, or just to say hi and that I like the profile; not wanting to sleep with them, not having an agenda, and people don't have the common courtesy to say thank you or whatever at ALL. I like talking to people and getting to know their stories and stuff... I think that some guys are so conditioned to think that whoever messages them is after a hook up that they forget that its not always about that.

On the flip. There are PLENTY of guys that take it the wrong way and I'm like "yooooooo, its not like that; just saying hi..." and THEN they won't talk to you again because you're honest. Its a delicate balance...

Oh gawd, I've have several odd 50-60yr old men come up to me, and act as if they knew me, without saying a word. Idk who they are, or what they want... They've got more guts than their younger predecessors, but please they need to aim for men closer to their age.

Mostly when I say hey to someone it's because I take interest in them. But when I do it over the internet, I don't expect it as a hook up thing, considering the computer screen being in the way kinda ruins that for me

I use Grindr and Scruff, and the ManHunt app a lot. I'm living in Norther Canada so Gay men are thin on the ground here. The occasional hook up happens. But I tend to use it as a way to chat with other Gay men living in remote communities. Some wonderful friendships have developed.

I can't ever remember a guy just saying hi to me online or Grindr who was looking for "friends." I'm sure someone can come up with an exception, but generally, people chat you up online because they're looking for sex or a relationship (which includes sex). I actually wouldn't mind if someone chatted me looking for a movie buddy without sex or any more expectations. It just has never happened.

Older men hit on younger guys - it's like the same thing with young straight women dating older sugar daddies. Next time if it happens, just tell them that you're into younger dicks and they remind you of your grandpa, they'll leave you alone after that.

Collegestudent20 saidIm sure I can't be the only one to have this happen to them. Like many other gays out there, I have a grindr account. If you message, I'll respond. I'm not rude. But since when does me saying "hey" mean that I want a hook up.
Guys, stop making assumptions, sometimes a hey, is just a hey

Lol. Work out your issues with being a nice human being dude. It really is the case that humans being nice to each other actually means that they are simply being nice to each other. Just imagine the world we would live in, and how less painful and complicated your own life would be, if you as a human could just be nice back to people who are nice to you. All they are trying to do is treat you with respect. And don't worry, you will be able to quickly tell if they are not really being nice but have an agenda. I know I sound crazy in this western world we live in, but being nice is not a bad thing. Even Jesus tried to be nice to people. What they hell was he trying to teach us about God wanting us to at least be nice to each other. There is so much pain western world people carry in this world that they instinctively hate nice people. That's not normal, I hate to tell you this truth. It's crazy. lol.

I have experienced this quite a few times, only mine were in person. When traveling through certain areas there are sometimes guys who will mistake the casual hand wave as an invitation to stalk and touch. I have been personally "propostitioned" by strangers several times just by being friendly. If you think its tough online, just imagine what it is like in person. I have to say that I've been pretty lucky when it comes to chatting with people online. For the most part, the only people I give my screen names out to are people who I have a specific topic to discuss with. So it would be a lot harder for me to find myself in a chatroom with a cruiser.

I agree, I usually just talk to random people and it may be because of my job being a registered nurse I'm just used to talking to a stranger if I feel like it.

Of course it's nothing suss, it's just having a conversation. It's a little annoying when you basically have to preface a message saying that it's not anything shifty you just thought you'd say something nice.

Often I find (at least on here anyway) there is a unspoken rule on 'timeframe of when to reply to messages" lol.

To me it's like having a virtual conversation so it's not like if someone asked you a question in person you'd wander around and then get back to them and answer. Not that I'm saying that you have to answer straight away because people are busy and you automatically assume that, it's just funny how some people are deterred from "too" immediate responses.

Okay I think I might have gotten a bit off topic, sorry for that.
