Wide shoulders, defined arms , huge chest, nice traps, great lean torso, love it when they say ur solid, great muscle tone.

I call shenanigans. Somebody's fishing for compliments, methinks.

Things people might say at the gym to compliment others:
    "Looking good bro."
"How do I get arms like those?"
"You're making great progress. Keep it up."

    Things people don't say.
    "You have wide shoulders."
    "You have defined arms."
"What a great, lean torso." (Torso?)

    Do you vote republican?

    yes

    It figures!
For a supporter of open relationships, you can be pretty uptight sometimes.

On those occasions when I feel like giving a compliment to someone at the gym, I usually break the ice with something like "Excuse me, how long have you been lifting weights?... (wait for answer)... Man, I wish I had _______ like yours!" and they usually end with a wide grin on their face and will nod/say hi from that day on.

@Firebran: there is a huge difference between being socially polite and cruising. Cruising would be standing behind you on the smith machine and grab my dick while smiling at you on the mirror.

Social politeness is not cruising. Social politeness with hidden sexual motives = quit creepin.

My gym is infested with creepers and it's grosssssssssssssssssss

I think many guys don't compliment, they just look... and don't say too much.
    We all look...

I've had compliments.... "you look like you close this place", meaning I'm there
and work out alot. I once had a guy want to know what I did "to look the way you do".

When people ask me what my fitness secrets are, I usually tell them "sit on my ass and eat happy meals."

Well black squarecut aside, I could encourage them to do 500 reps on the
    leg press machine... haha

Those days are over for me. I'd love to compliment guys at my gym (which is VERY straight) but there's too much of a risk making people uncomfortable. I try to focus on doing my workout.

Meh. I usually attract a crowd of admirers as soon as I walk through the door. Men, women, gays, straights, they're all trailing after me for a peek at my latest muscle growth. I try not to encourage them, you know? to stay focused on my workout. But it generally only takes a set of biceps curls before they're clapping and hooting and throwing me high-fives. I've learned to live with it. But it's pretty annoying.

Unless I'm having one of those days. You know, when a guy actually needs some attention in the gym. Something to get his juices flowing, to push him through a hard-core workout. And, wouldn't you know it, it's usually these days when the audience--ahem, other gym patrons, seem preoccupied with their own workouts. (I know, right?) But, it's all good. I resort to Plan B: After a few sets, to get good and swole, I start posing in front of the mirrors beside the free weights. If that doesn't get everyone's attention, I add some sound effects with each flex--loud bursts of air, sprinkled with a few under-the-breath "Yeahs!" as I look myself over with satisfaction.

Still nothing? No problem. As I flex and make my sounds, I start darting my eyes dramatically over to whomever happens to be watching me (sometimes only from the corner of their eyes), inviting them into my moment, so to speak. This almost always does the trick. And It only takes a few compliments to get me through my work out.

There is a Plan C, which I've only had to resort to a few times. That's when I progress from darting eyes to some verbal prompting while I flex in front of the mirrors. Something like, "You like that?" or, "How you like them apples?" which I sometimes have to say pretty loudly if everyone happens to be wearing headphones. (I know, right?) Sometimes it just takes a little coaxing. All I'm asking for is a little recognition, a little appreciation for all the work I'm putting in, you know?

    lol

Go to the gym to workout, and though workout advice is welcome, I'm not much for talking there. If someone wants to get to know, they can invite me somewhere, and vice versa... I go there to get all my pent up rage out. I'm not there for gossip, comparing dimensions, or ogling over sexy asses. Hell, I don't do that outside the gym either, fuck. Why do fools gotta stare anyhow? I'm not even the buffest guy in the gym! Gawd!

Like most other guys here, I don't chat to anyone at the gym. Been going to the same place 12 years and I don't know a single other regular by name. And I have no intention of changing that.
