I'm pretty asocial since I focus on my routines, a combination of balance, stability and weights. Here and there, guys are amazed at someone my age still fit and has abs; I thank them and go back to my focus, the workout.

The only two compliments I ever got at the gym were within a minute of each other, about a month ago. The first wasn't a surprise since I hear it a lot but the second sure was, considering the source. Here's the incredulous exchange:

Him: "Excuse me, I feel dumb for asking this but I locked my glasses in the locker and I can't read the combination. If I tell it to you can you open it for me?"

Me: "No problem, I totally relate. I'm still trying to get used to my bifocals."

Him: "You wear bifocals? How old are you?"

    Me: "49."

Him: "No way can you be 49, that'd make you two years older than me!"

The married straight bro gym receptionist entering the locker room: "Oh yeah, he's almost 50 and he's got that hot body!"

people tell me how fast I made progress (only a year working out) they like my shoulders and legs. Its funny but guys seem to be more open to make compliments than girls in my case

Since I work out at home, maybe a rabbit hopping by the door might wrinkle his nose at me once in a while. But that's about it.

the only compliments i've ever gotten at the gym were the women who all knew my name after i accidentally freeballed in zumba class

    and my mma instructor

who said he was surprized such a girly white boy could keep up with him.

    At the gym, never.
At the dojo, 'mmmm. Nice muscles '
    'checkout the guns!'
'continue to train hard and one day you too will abs that stick out from your sweat drenched t-shirt!'

    "you're huuuge"

    still love it

i dont get the "i dont go for the compliments" replies. no one i know goes to the gym JUST to get complimented or whatever, but you cant honestly say you would prefer it if no one ever told you anything about your physique.

i would be lost without the advice and opinions of others, too long in the mirror and i start to look more and more skinny to myself. so when someone tells me that my strength or physique is impressive to them, i think well i cant be that bad. i certainly dont go specifically to get noticed. i go to train till i cant move, and am as serious about my training as anyone else, but its a major part of how anyone views themselves, in anything.

Most straight guys who pay me a compliment are sincere... one over the weekend who I hadn't seen for awhile said, "Man I see you have really been working out".
Another said, "wow, what do you do to look like that". Its really more about the
"condition" rather than how I "look" as a man. I always say "thanks" if warranted and give em the answer.

I go to perhaps one of the gayest gyms in the world, and I do mean gayest in the the "homo" sense. I go to the Steele Gym (a.k.a., Island City Health & Fitness) in Wilton Manors, Florida, and its secondary function is a cruising spot - the first being, of course, a gym in which to workout. I'd say that 95% + of its members are gay, and I think we have a total of 10 women that workout there. Guys go to "work" out and to "work" the gym. It's hilarious to watch because the sexual energy and tension is off the charts in there.

There's not a day that goes by that I don't hear something "complimentary," or get groped or touched. Yes, sorry, YCYL, but it's part of the gay vibe here, I guess.

That could get so annoying. I'd never get out on time.

At the gym, it's not so much about my body, but about the workout; the intensity, the weights, sometimes the form, etc. At the dojo, it's usually about my strength. I can sometimes force submissions that I shouldn't be getting.
