My favorite band/musician is definitely a tie between chevelle and Tool. Tool has such a unique gorgeous sound that compliments maynards lyrics. Chevelle has been my introduction to a new ERA, more of a progressive/melodic metal, but not like anything i've heard before. Normally bands attempt new sound to keep the band fresh, but they lose fans because they try something too different, ie. Linkin Park. Chevelle, however, is able to create a theme for each CD and avoid completely changing their style but still allowing a slight change in style.

HowHotKC saidRereading the thread's OP I think the title should be "Who is your favorite vocal artist?" which is different from your favorite musician.

If bands count then definitely Jefferson Airplane. Grace slick was insane. Otherwise probably Jose Gonzalez at the moment for individual.

    Lincsbear saidIan Anderson(Jethro Tull).

The joke used to be, "Old people think Jethro Tull is a guy." Now I think the joke is probably, "Young people think Jethro Tull is a guy."

    Chip465 saidDallas Green :p amazing!!

Dallas Green has one of the best voices of our generation! If only him and Emily Haines would have a love child. That would be the sexiest sounding Canadian ever!

Trent Reznor is arguably my favorite musician of all time though.

    Probably Arthur Rubinstein.

That has to be one of the most difficult pieces to play and he plays it fantastically well! And you can hear why the instrument is called a piano-forte'.

    Scotticus saidBeethoven!

That's Beethoven's Choral Fantasy; it is one of my favorite pieces. It's interesting to listen to different renditions of it on youtube. However, although Beethoven was both a composer and a musician in his day, there are no known recordings of him as a musician so today he's better known as a composer.
