30 years and 30 pounds ago, sure.

Today, only "behind closed doors", with the lights dimmed and with someone who could not pose for a fitness cover magazine.

Art_Deco saidWhat's curious in our society is how we place geographical limitations on going shirtless. OK in some places, not in others.

Shirtless is OK at the beach or pool. That's how you tan & swim. But you wouldn't go into Macy's that way, nor attend church. And how many eateries have signs reading: "No shoes, no shirt, no service"

How much skin you can show is very situational in our society. (Except in Walmart stores, that represent the dregs of society. Check out the various online sites that document the aberrant underdressed horrors to be found there)

And Speedo briefs are the norm in competitive male swimming & diving, seen on TV everywhere, but wear them on a US beach and you'll likely get criticism. Well, except on our local Sebastian Beach, which is mostly gay. Another double standard.

So going shirtless depends on place & situation. We all do it at some point. The trick is in knowing where that point is.

Nothing very "curious" about it at all, man. There are times and places for shirtless running and wearing things. No "trick" to it either. Just don't try to do it if it isn't appropriate. And for you / Jesus Christ / no more naked photos of you lying there like a beached whale. God / you made me almost ralph up my dinner when I saw that. And how many times have you posted shit like that? What is wrong with you? When we're fat and outta shape, we'd have to be a complete tool to post that kind of thing on a site with younger, fit, health conscious dudes! WTF??????

Generally speaking my reasons for going shirtless in public are to tan. But even then it's a rarity for me.

What's also curious is you commenting on pics from a thread that was last active in October, months before you joined RJ. That thread's expired from the listing of my posts on my profile page, and in the Travel Forum you have to go to the second page back to find it, if you know what you're after. Who would look there?

As for the pics, they were done in self-deprecating fun. And also to satisfy the usual "pics or it didn't happen" comments, when I wrote in earlier threads from Key West about our October trip. I included other pics, too, of course, because I always try to give a good idea of what we did on our trips, showing what I wrote about while there.

BTW, I myself noted how disappointed I was that I hadn't lost more weight at that point. I've since lost 15 more pounds, despite the holidays when I usually pick up 10-15. But then, if you saw those pics back in October, months before you joined RJ, then you evidently read all those other threads from then, too.

And what makes you think that only "younger dudes" are fit and health conscious? I hate to break the news to you, but at 41 you ain't exactly a younger dude yourself, either. In gay years you're about 83.

And have YOU pedaled your bicycle 165 miles down to Key West, as I have several times in my 60s? Participating even in the middle of daily cancer treatments, which I interrupted for 2 weeks, then having surgery days after I returned home? Then pedaling my bike again and playing golf the 3rd day after surgery, despite some post surgical complications.

I'd say that satisfies at least one definition of "fit", if not pure guts (hate to brag, but your insults compel me). Even if I looked like a "beached whale" pedaling the whole way.

Not allowed to take my shirt off in public. Court order. My albedo is so high that I'm a danger to passing cars if I'm shirtless.

So ironic. I was going to make the same exact comment!

The really weird thing about the question is that you aren't naturally equipped with a shirt. It's not a question of "taking your shirt off in public." You have to put one on... icon_rolleyes.gif

If it's not cold out, wearing a shirt is actually kind of creepy and perverted. Concealing a weapon maybe?

Take it off man! Everybody's beautiful in their own way. Screw this objectification and judgement crap. It's petty, ignorant, and you should not restrict your life or behavior because of it.
