I can handle Madonna... Being I am about to be old and gray I might as well confess I saw her on her Who's That Girl tour.... Is that too old? LOL icon_lol.gif

Wow, thats awsome. Thats when she could sing and dance without 50 backup dancers and a voice track. That was a good show. She really showed her stuff on that one. Back then she was competing against Michael Jackson Prince and Bruce Springsteen for live shows, Not Britney Spears and Rhianna so she had to keep it good and "live"

This question could be answered by starting an appreciation thread and having us all post our favourite rock (and niches within rock) bands and songs icon_biggrin.gif

I look forward to it !

are u kidding me, I love rock music. I abandoned all that bumpbumpbup stuff when I was like 17. well... i guess there is still a few things on my gym mix. But the rest is all rock and indie.

i actually had a guy tell me, "wow, I'm sure glad I'm not gay cuz then i wouldn't be able to listen to NIN or anything cool..."... idiot

Contemporary alternative rock and alternative folk have a huge underground scene that you don't hear much on the radio. There are gays in that scene. But OP is right. I find "gay culture" to be just another mono-culture, not too open to anything but itself. Back when I was trying to fit in with gays, I regularly encountered open animosity and suspicion toward gays who drifted into rock-inspired scenes. Luckily there are plenty of guys who don't buy into being a stereotype.

OP you might want to look at your own words. You seem to be limiting yourself to a narrow genre of rock (80s 5-piece band), which would kind of be like someone who limits themselves to a narrow genre of gay-approved bump bump. There's a big wonderful diverse world out there of rock-inspired, folk-inspired, and electronic-inspired music out there just waiting to be discovered, stuff you will never hear on the radio or on music TV. Have found some nice stuff at http://pitchfork.com/.

Yes, it was a fantastic production! She got sued during that tour for performing at the Anaheim stadium and right before she sang Get Into The Groove she told the audience, "in order for me to sing this song I dedicate to you, you need to come closer." Well as you can imagine people were jumping off the bleachers and landing on eachother, some got injured. It was the show I went to here in California. It was mindboggling.

Sustenance saidI have noticed this for the last 15 years... It seems gay people mostly listen to that bump bump bump music. I just could never get into that sort of bump bump stuff, there's just so much more variety in rock music. Of course this is just my opinion.icon_cool.gif

Silly statement; all your statement means is that you are not as cultured as you think and have limited yourself to the experiences of the world.

I like most music ie Disco, House, Soft Rock, Ska Indie etc, but my favourite music is from the 1940's and 1950's and love dancing to both. There is a huge Rockin' scene in the UK and in Europe and so many closeted Rockabillys.
Love dancing /listening to Louis Prima & Keely Smith, Big Joe Turner, Little Richard etc

I love that entire 30 Seconds to Mars album. But the boyfriend makes fun every time I play it because of all the overwrought choirs.

WOW..Thats my favorite live performance of into the groove by her. so energetic...I love at the beginning when she's at the top of the stairs and after the ".....for your inspiration" line, she asks the audience "are you ready?" and they all scream...yessss, and she screams "COME ON!!!" and the song starts.....lol classic.

Anyways about rock n roll...I love guns and roses, i love appetite and the use your illusion albums. whenever patience, welcome to the jungle, or sweet child of mine comes on the car radio i secretly role up my window and do my best axl rose impersonation..i love his voice, the end of GNR was one of the greatest musical transgressions in music history. they would have been so much better. rumor has it that slash and the other guys wanted delve into other musical landscapes but axl wasn't willing to go there. thats to bad because i really think they would have grown musically.

RHCP are my favorite rock bands. By The Way is by far one of my favorite albums EVER!! in any genera. It holds a special place in my heart because I began working out for the first time to that album. My run was timed to that album, if I made it home by "throw away your television" it was a good run, if it was "cabron" it was a bad run.

U2 are indeed one of the most soulful rock groups out there. I really like their most recent stuff of the last 12 years or so. Actung Baby is good too.

Have you seen some of the threads started on this? Most music threads have at least 2 or 3 metal/rock songs added a week... What's On Your Mind? thread for instance, just yesterday. Good music all around! icon_mad.gificon_biggrin.gificon_twisted.gif

    Pop music is supposedly addictive.

I also like rock, mostly the modern stuff but do like a couple songs from the 80's and 90's
