jerseywoof saidno its just the people you hang out with

there are plenty of gay guys who love rock but for some reason the stereotype is driven home early to young gays that they have to listen to a certain type of music. Perhaps the feminine ones are more in touch with pop, I dont know, every club is all about dance music

I have discovered since beginning this thread that it is actually the age difference you are right about. Clears things up. I was scared Rock music was getting flushed down the toilet. It takes the next set of baby boomers (us) to steer them in the right direction, but corporate america will ensure that never happens. It's too easy for them to make money off it right now.icon_rolleyes.gif

Sustenance saidI have noticed this for the last 15 years... It seems gay people mostly listen to that bump bump bump music. I just could never get into that sort of bump bump stuff, there's just so much more variety in rock music. Of course this is just my opinion.icon_cool.gif

I almost exclusively listen to indie/alternative/rock music. With the rare exception, I find top 40 pop and dance club music to be pretty freaking awful. No offense to those who like it, but it does absolutely nothing for me. I'd rather listen to a baby cry.

I used to be only able to stand classical music and rock (of all sorts, though I tend to listen to emo/screamo/and hard"ish" rock). Though I've branched out a lil more (try not to be so closed minded), I still love my boys of rock.

I can't say that I hate Electronic, but on the list of what I would deem good music, its definitely the shit kicker of musical genres.

Avenged Sevenfold has Paganini-esque guitar solos, Mayday Parade has kickass counterpoint, Sum 41, Green Day, and Blink 182 all have ridiculous drummers that keep the rhythms fresh, Electronic has none of that, and is completely devoid of the "human" element, which makes music so special.

Nightwish can be pretty sweet. Sometimes cheesy, but always epic. A dude on here introduced me to them actually.

Music is all about association and how it makes you feel. But the more you learn and appreciate different genres of music, its variety, its cultural roots and its evolution, the more you can appreciate its many art forms and begin to feel it. Rock is one art form amongst many. Those who only listen to one genre need to widen their appreciation for other forms of music and sound.icon_cool.gif

I love Gaga and Madonna but also I love Nine Inch Nails, Manson, Rob Zombie, Hole and some Metallica too.

I think pop music appeals to more gay men because it's wrapped up in glamorous imagery, is generally very stylized and fronted largely by women. It's about escapism whereas with a lot rock music there is aggression and a heavy dose of reality.

I would not say i met a lot of people (not only gay guys) who would genuinely love rock music... But.. actually I like guitar rock and heavy metal and prefer it to cheesy and repetitive pop stuff icon_rolleyes.gif
Just.. I assume gay community prefer to be trendy and go with the flow hence the passion for pop culture and itunes stuff but it's ok... it comes and goes while rock music stays a tiny bit longer lol

    Interesting.

Honestly...I listen to pretty much everything. I got everything from Top 40, to slipknot, to Linkin Park, to electronica, dance, to industrial on my ipod.

I generally go through 'phases' with the music and may listen to a certain genre more than others.
