Climate Study Forces Koch-Funded Skeptic to Admit Humans Driving Warming

    - Common Dreams staff

Climate change skeptic and physicist Richard Muller co-founded the Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature project three years ago to debunk global warming fears, even getting a $150,000 grant from the conservative Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation for his work.

Climate change skeptic and physicist Richard Muller has been a regular guest on The Glenn Beck show. Today, however, he writes in the New York Times:

"Call me a converted skeptic... humans are almost entirely the cause."

"My total turnaround, in such a short time, is the result of careful and objective analysis by the Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature project... Our results show that the average temperature of the earth’s land has risen by two and a half degrees Fahrenheit over the past 250 years, including an increase of one and a half degrees over the most recent 50 years. Moreover, it appears likely that essentially all of this increase results from the human emission of greenhouse gases."

"These findings are stronger than those of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the United Nations group that defines the scientific and diplomatic consensus on global warming."
    The Guardian reports:

In an unconventional move aimed at appeasing climate skeptics by allowing "full transparency", the results have been publicly released before being peer reviewed by the Journal of Geophysical Research. All the data and analysis is now available to be freely scrutinized at the Best website. This follows the pattern of previous Best results, none of which have yet been published in peer-reviewed journals.

    Here's some comments

When your a Real scientist, no matter how thick your skull is. You may find it very difficult to argue with the empirical data you yourself assembled.

At least this one finally came around. Now only hundred's of millions of morons to go.

True, he saw the writing on the wall, and whether his shift was opportunistic or not, it is welcome.

Those millions are rightwingers driven by political propaganda, not scientists. There's only been a handful of real scientists that were skeptical of climate change who weren't also being paid by the oil industry, the Koch brothers, or the like.

Now will our own RJ rightwingnuts acknowledge these facts, or will they like the christian fundi's and their TBagger partners "NOT SEE IT, UNTILL THEY BELIEVE IT". For many of these dumb sheeple they'll have to hear the 'facts' from some Preacher or other religious leader so they can 'believe' the facts as something from a 'bublical authority'. LOL Damned willfull ignorance is to blame.

I am a Christian and I do not need some spiritual leader or pastor or what have you to tell me that what is happening is indeed the consequence of human interaction with the environment. Any individual with a good spiritual sense can tell you that Climate Change is a real thing.

I believe that there are a large number of people around the world who KNOW that this is the case, and who are already doing something about it. Not everyone is as ignorant as you may think.

And to those who sincerely do not believe in Climate Change, you need not look to hard because the evidence is all around you.
