I talk to my dog because she is a person.

Dogs are very perceptive and read body language as well as pitch and intonation in our voices and will pick up on whether we're happy or sad, angry, frustrated, joyful and pretty much always react in a way that fits the mood.

More often than not we need someone to just listen and not judge - so we pick a pet - pets don't judge.. except for cats, who I suspect pity us for not being cats.

A dog we've bonded with will usually love us unconditionally - will usually chose to beleive the best of us, even when they know better - I wish I knew more people like that.

It's OK to talk to yourself as long as you don't say, "Excuse me, what were you saying? icon_lol.gif

    Of course.

I also thank the microwave when it beeps (OK that one is weird, but I cannot seem to break that habit)

My dryer beeps, but I tell it to shut up. (it has an annoying accent)

I have one cat that utters a single vocalization in response when I say his name.

Our Siamese cat talks back. in a string of sounds, that will roughly last abou as long as whatever sentence to said to her. (she is probably "talking back" in her mind)

i know this is sort of a spam sort of topic but my friends think im weird because i talk to my dog like a person, and sometimes talk to myself, ok if you want to send me to a mental insitute go ahead, but really do you talk to your pets or yourself???

The only weird thing is that you think that this is weird.
If you were to talk to (I did not say with) your biceps it would be within reason. But to your tattoo- no.

tmac saidI talk to myself all the time when i'm trying to figure something out and can't get my thoughts together. it's a way for me to focus lol

So do I, mainly when I'm working on something mechanical. "Now this goes here, and if I put that there, and push that..." I call it "thinking out loud" and consider it natural & harmless.

Not sure why I do that, maybe to keep the problem-solving process orderly. The important thing is that I don't hear the object talking back to me, nor do I ever have a 2-person conversation with myself. Now THAT could be scary. icon_eek.gif

FireDoor211 saidI talk to both, and also inanimate objects.
This... more specifically, I only choose to take my anger out on inanimate objects, thankfully there are weights for that! icon_biggrin.gif

I do both. Sometimes at work I get busted talking to myself. I do it in my office all the time. and of course I talk to my cats. They are people despite the fur and just meowing.

Most people talk to their dogs - I know I do. It would probably be similar to the way I'd talk to a five year old child. I give a whole lot of praise and atta-boys. We also go through tricks every day or so - with a round of "good boy!" after each trick. My dog knows English phrases (as do most dogs, I realize). Such as:
Do you want to go for a run?
Who wants to go for a ride?
    Go get into your bed.
Do you want to go outside?
    Who wants some food?
    Don't bark!
    Get a drink.
    Can you roll over?
Shake hands........left hand, now - right hand, now - both hands.
    Can you sit?
    Can you lie down?
Come here - let's brush you.

I guess cat lovers can't exactly talk the same way to cats, can they?

No we dont. mine consist of:

    Why are you meowing?
    Stop chewing the wires
    Who is that big kitty?
    Why are you crazy?
    Troy no!
    Emmett no!

oh I talk to myself all the time
that's how I practiced my english
it's been a habit and I never really notice that
until I went to college and had a roommate

one day i was just talking to myself, trying to figure out what I have to do for the day, and my roommate was like "what?!"
he thought I was talking to him, pretty hilarious

RocknMike saidWhen I had my dog, I talked to him as if he were a best friend of mine. Got through my teen years like that ha.

me too. she was the best.
she was an old english sheepdog, and looked like this:

i think everyone talks to themselves, maybe some more than others. but i think its pretty normal to do so.

I talk to other drivers when I'm on the freeway - - they can't hear me though. Goes something like this:

    Nice signal!
What the fuck are you doing in this lane?
Why the Hell don't you get over?
Oh - nice going - you almost caused an accident.
Oh crap - what the fuck are you trying to do, lady?
Get off of your phone - idiot.
Uh - this is the passing lane, don't you see the six cars that had to go around you?

^ THIS too. I constantly bitch at other drivers ... and I use that term loosely because a DRIVER wouldn't be doing that stupid shit! It's how I work out my frustration before getting home.

Yes, have talked to my pets in the past, and enjoyed the conversation. Sometimes they`ve initiated one! Their observation of us is continuous and very acute. They understand more than we realize.

I do sometimes talk myself when out running. It`s all part of clearing my mind of all its nonsense.
