I don't watch them, but I used to. They can be very engaging. To tell you the truth, with the death of VCR and taping the episode for later viewing, I haven't seen any....cause I',m never home during the day when these soaps usualy air.

PS..a tip to anyone wanting to learn a foreign language.......catch a soap ands get into it...you will learn a lot!

Sorry to all the cat nazis out thwere for any mispellings.

I should have known I was gay when my girlfriend in high school got me started watching Days of Our Lives....and I was more into than she was. I was watching it at my boyfriend's apartment the other day and he said, "What's wrong with Tony DiMera? His skin color is very strange." I told him he's looked like that for ages. I feel like I'm back in the '80s when I watch it right now - all of the old characters are back.....but they've really aged.

Well it was when I was in law school that I got hook (thanks to my cousin) on ATWT (As the World Turns).
I tend to watch it in intervals, sometimes missing it in major (like a year) chunks. I've been atuned to whats going now (including the Luke & Noah gay saga)..
Kind of interesting to see clips off of YouTube from several years ago and realize there were characters that came and went (and actors) I didn't even realize.

Of course the biggie I was hooked on while growing up was
    "DALLAS"!!

Unfortunately I've been spending too much time following the Luke/Noah story on As The World Turns by watching all the YouTube videos. The beginning of the story was rather realistic and romantic but after they became a couple it mostly went downhill.

I've also been following the Christian/Olli storyline from the German soap Verbotene Liebe. But it appears that soaps don't quite know what to do with their couples after they overcome all the initial obstacles to being together.

I know..I thought this was going to be on soap bar brand preferences. I prefer DIAL or LEVER2000 for that extra clean feeling. icon_smile.gif

Wow, they really know how to kill the story for the new year, breaking up the couple on New Year's Eve with such a preposterous plot device. Only highlight was seeing Noah get jealous and give Brian the suckerpunch he so deserves.

I dunno if this counts as a soap opera, but lots of people call it that.

.......Y and R Pictures, Images and Photos..........
....because it's the best, leaps and bounds over the rest!

This is an old episode, but it's classic greatness is indicative as to why this SOAP, The Young and The Restless, has stood the test of time. I just recently became a fan, but I've been catching up on the internet. I love Y&R the most because it plays up THE DRAMA better than any of the others. Infact, I think some of the others try to play the drama down to be more modern or "cool", and others go for the suspense and human life angle; Y&R however, sticks to that over the top drama SOAP formula with a death grip. They take any oppurtuniy to play up even the most mundane situation. On that show, someone walking into a room can be an EVENT, not to mention what happens when someone fights or dies.

Hair, wardrobe, and makeup, A1 on that show: if the character is rich, they pile on the affectations of a rich person to an extreme and if the person is poor, they do the same. The are expert at perfecting their characters; for example, one of the characters had to be kind of an Oklahoma trailer trash bar fly last week. They pulled it off not only because of the excellent makeup, but because the actress was superb. Hey, I'm from here so I was looking to call it fake, but it was uncanny, they really nailed it. Bottomline, Y&R is not afraid of being corny so nothing ever comes of fake because they know where they stand; it's a SOAP, but a damn good one!
