not only that, but from another species tooicon_eek.gificon_lol.gif

humans have adapted the ability to do so over millenia, but not all humans can digest the lactase found in cow's milk. goat's milk i believe, doesn't have lactase - or i may be wrong...

Is it that high? I really don't know. But doctors have told me it runs in families, and my late father had it very bad, and my youngest son does, but not the older.

But it seems to have skipped over me, which I was told it will also do. So cow's milk tastes great to me with no problems, as does ice cream and other milk products even at 63. Only thing I've had to do is switch to skim because of my weight and cholesterol.

I love almond milk. Blue Diamond unsweetened is my favorite, and it inhances the cereals I like.... The only drawback is that it doesn't haven't any protein.

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidI love almond milk, rice milk and coconut milk. Soy milk is good too but I don't drink it since I already eat a small box of tofu daily.

I don't drink any of this stuff on a daily basis but I have it as a treat now and then.

I like the vanilla flavored varieties more than the regular ones.

    was it water tofu? icon_biggrin.gif

A gastro doc told me several years ago that most people on earth will eventually become lactose intolerant, especially if one has dark colored hair & eyes. Only a small group of people (forgot which group) in Europe that can actually digest dairy all their lives, and that took generations to become that way.

But what's the consensus on goat cheese or cheese in general? I usually skip the cheese just to save a few calories; but I've been eying that goat cheese flavored with blueberries at TJ's... icon_twisted.gif

    SHOCKING!!!

Good thing we don't eat other species.. makes the idea of drinking the milk seem like such a massive stretch.

my boyfriend is lactose "ignoranus" (that's what he calls it), and he loves almond milk, it doesn't give him the gassy, bloating feeling. Kinda pricy tho compared to regular milk

It's a great substitute for milk if it's texture you're after. We use it as our non-lactose option at my cafe. People love it! And it makes a great Mocha

I drink almond milk daily. It's the base for my smoothies. But I always buy it UNSWEETENED. Check out the difference in sugar content between the unsweetened and the flavored and you'll see why!

My thoughts exactly, except I don't eat tofu on a daily basis (since I just eat it plain, I don't know what to pair with it) and soy is usually my last resort, especially when someone told me that soy has an effect on the body's estrogen levels. I didn't want my man-boobs coming back, suffered from the FFB Syndrome for a while. icon_lol.gif Now I believe it's just a myth, so I have soy whenever.

Went off-topic for a bit probably, but back to the thread discussion.... almond milk is awesome, I use it as a replacement for regular milk nowadays, especially in my morning cereal! icon_biggrin.gif Almond Breeze Coconut-Almond Milk being my fave kind.

Soy products do not affect estrogen levels. Stick with more reputable sources for this type of information. I've read plenty of scholarly journals that assert they do not. And from my personal experience I am in agreement. Since I've been eating tofu for months I am not experiencing any signs of increased estrogen.

Seriously, the reputation Soy has for this is due to Ignorance - I've lost count of the threads that I've seen here crying about the phytoestrogens in Soy - never, ever mentioning just about every other vegetable or legume which has estrogenic properties.

You'll never want to eat another green thing in your life if you're concerned about foods like Soy causing Manboobs.

I would practically guarantee you're getting more phytoestrogens from the other foods in your diet than you would, or could consume by adding Soy to your diet.

Guys - do some research of your own!
