I was, but I'm retired now. In international sports no one gave a damn; with the US Team I was what you might call "closeted with the door wide open" - everyone knew, I think, but because the HQ was in Utah with some pretty reactionary people at the top, I played it safe. I outed myself in an international newsletter about the time I retired, so everyone and his brother knew, and when U "unretired" and ran a freelance ski tuning business, I didn't give a damn again.

35 years old, I work in the entertainment construction industry. I am out at my office, but don't flounce around clients. Love me or hate me learn to live with me, because I'm the best thing going. WOOO

Well im not in the 'real world' yet but in my past two internships I was out. Some people didn't care, some people kinda gave me the cold shoulder...and those who had a problem I worked my ass off and got a lot of recognition for it.

First internship was at a private marketing firm and the second was in the job search industry.

    Hmm...I want pie now

Yes, 33, work at an ad agency in LA (which in all honesty, is a pretty easy place to be out). That said, I've been out in almost all of my previous jobs, as well.

redsoxfan791 saidI'm a federal HR analyst. I'm out to those I want to be out to. With most of the people I work with, its unnecessary for people to know my sexuality. I don't hide it, but I don't broadcast it either. Its one part of me. Not all of me.

    +1

    ... and well stated.

Student and work at a clothing store, so yes because it's not a big deal. But I dated a guy who was a construction worker and not out at all... he introduced me as his "friend" and it was really weird.

I'm 25 and work as an RN. To be honest I worked individually so there was nobody to out to. That and patient's never asked me my orientation, that doesn't even come up into conversation at all.

Anyway for some reason every time I've been hired, they always get me to work solo so I don't really have work mates so then I end up just having really good rapport with all the patients.

I'm a college instructor in a small town in the south. I am pretty sure everyone suspects, but it's sort of a DADT mentality at the moment, so I am not officially out. A couple of people know, but I am growing more comfortable with coming out to everyone on campus.

Fortunately, while it is a small town, it is oddly fairly liberal and I doubt it would even be a big deal.

For the most part, yes. Musical Theatre lol. Most of the guys I work with are gay, and the straight ones love the gay guys.

That's an industry where it could work for you.

Unfortunately, I've only ever been attracted to one of the gay guys and he didn't feel the same way. Was a rough few months.

Sadly I tend to fall for the straight guys much easier. Quite frustrating lol.

Yes, 34, work in a warehouse for a logistics company.
I've never actually come out but talk about my partner and personal life in the same way as my coworkers when its relevant. I've got nothing to hide or prove and people seem to take me at face value when I don't make an issue of it.

Been out for years. It's pretty easy in my line of work. If someone doesn't like it, it's their problem. My boss (straight) seems to love recruiting the gays for jobs icon_smile.gif

    Yes, 24, Entertainment

I've had previous jobs where I wasn't out, because well, it never came up. Not hiding anything. I just had a past co-worker message me on Facebook recently from a job I left over a year ago saying, "We were talking about you at work today, YOU'RE GAY?? SINCE WHEN!?". I had a good laugh. icon_lol.gif

Yes, and I get asked all the weird questions, for some reason. I work in retail/healthcare/fashion (I sell glasses, essentially) so it's kind of expected.

    No, old, oil.

My boss knows I'm gay (thru facebook) but I don't talk about relationships much with co workers.

I'm 26, out and a PhD student/lab technician/lecturer. Our department is pretty much a hub of rumours and gossip. My friends obviously knew, and it wasn't soon till it spread around. Nobody cares luckily, and my supervisors and senior colleagues joke around with me about it. Even my head of department knows.

Every year we have fun seeing how long it'll take the honours students to find out - they always assume I'm dating one of the girls I work with icon_razz.gif

Old, been out for years and it was only an issue once, surprisingly at a large corporation. My current boss loves me though.

Absolutely yes. 34 & an attorney. I live in CA but work in a red state, and my coworkers have always been more comfortable with me being out and open than with my closeted coworkers who keep things coy.
