    I put the tv on CSPAN or NASA, or one of my school's video lectures. It's great. I pick up random facts and then it puts me right to sleep! two birds, one stone.

    This is pretty sound advice.

    You can do various sedatives from alcohol, to valerian root, to zanax, but, usually it's best to acknowledge that you aren't drowsy, do something a bit boring, and you'll usually nod off.

    Turning the tv or computer on in other than a non-engaging way can keep you up for hours.

    Lots of times, if you get your blood sugar up (if you don't eat enough during the day, you'll find it hard to sleep) you'll have trouble sleeping. Saeity happens when your blood sugar is up and a bit of fat will help, too.

    If you drink coffee to late in the day, you can struggle to sleep. If you use tobacco, stop.

    You can google on this and find out the conditions where you will sleep more soundly, fall asleep faster, and stay asleep. (I struggled last night, and I'm tired today.)

    10mg of valium may be a bit much, depending on tolerance and so on.

    Many folks die with a combination like valium and alcohol. These aren't just addictive if used improperly, but, can be life threatening.

    Have trouble sleeping here also. What works best for me is to get out of bed as soon as you feel awake. Go to the bathroom, go read, look out the window or do something until you feel tired and want to go back to bed.

    When back in bed, pick a phrase or thought that you focus on repeatedly (mantra). If other thoughts enter your mind, go back to your mantra. Also relax your face and other muscle groups one at a time while repeating your mantra.

    If this doesn't work, wanking helps too.

    I take a simple sleep pill over the counter. For some reason I fall right asleep but on a plane you can't knock me out with a baseball bat. It is so uncomfortable to me on a plane.
