If you are looking to save money, then I definitely wouldn't consider Boston. But, it would fit a lot of your criteria.

UIUCIllini23 saidChicago is very affordable, has one of the biggest gay communities in the country, and has cold winters and cool spring/fall seasons. Neighborhoods like Rogers Park, Edgewater, Uptown, Buena Park, Andersonville, and even Lakeview (which is the gayborhood) have very affordable housing options. You'll easily pay half of what you'd pay in rent in San Francisco or New York. Good luck!

Though Chicago is an awesome city, I wouldn't call it one of the most affordable cities in the US..
I agree with you 100%. I consider Chicago one of the best major cities in the US. Unfortunately it is a very expensive city but that doesn't change the fact that Chicago is a very friendly major city. If it wasn't so expensive, I would have moved from Buffalo to Chicago a long time ago.

Not at all affordable. Bad weather. Only good thing is the gay friendly part and city itself is beautiful.

    +1

I was surprised this wasn't the first response. Minneapolis is a great city, great parks and cultural life. Friendly people, liberal, big gay population. Inexpensive.

If I could keep my income and stay in the same field, I'd move for a job there.

I lived in Minneapolis from 1957 to 1978. It's a nice city and has become nicer since I left. However, the winters are exceedingly trying. In the 1962 - 1963 winter, there was a two week period when the temperature stayed below zero the entire time. That was slightly unusual, but you may expect that just about every winter, the temperature will sometimes drop to -10 or colder.

Minneapolis has many nice lakes and parks within the city limits. But, because of the long cold winters, they are not of much use for much of the year. The beaches are open for only two months of the year. The roads are heavily salted during the winter resulting in heavy corrosion damage to cars.

If you like cold weather, by all means consider Minneapolis.

But the great thing about Minneapolis is that when the parks get frozen over for the winter, that just means that it's time for cross-country skiing!

Plus the accessibility to the remote Boundary Waters is amazing.

Tell that to my $850/month mortgage for a condo on the lakefront. Oh, and the good public transit means I don't own a car, making my finances immediately that much better. Kevmoran is looking for a city with a good gay community in a place that's not too hot. I think Chicago is the obvious choice if he wants big city life at half the price of NYC or SF.

If anyone is dellusional on here it is the idiot from Wales who never made any honest effort to see the many good sides of Buffalo, he chose instead to hang out in the city's decayed east side slums. I have put this stupid asshole on IGNORE.
