Is it possible to be so far off the wheel of religions but still retain some of what it tries to teach morally and ethically? Cause my Benjamin Franklin to Leonardo Da Vinci perspective puts me in a solitary belief system. icon_confused.gif

xrichx saidProblem is most people don't care. Rather than correct their own bad behavior, they expect others to adapt to it.

What REALLY makes my skin crawl? When I see tourists abroad, boldly proclaiming that "these foreigners are so______ and need to ___________!" WTF is THAT??? These "tourists" don't even recognize the basic fact that THEY are the foreigners... I usually speak up... and say something along those lines, alluding to such, which they won't comprehend... until, maybe/possibly, hours later..icon_rolleyes.gif.... though, what I ought to say is:

minox saidNow, just for the pleasure of brainfuck :

The desire to become closer to a perfect being, while other are not, is also a desire to raise yourself above others. It's self love, self promotion, seldom a value in any spiritual system.

The important quality you forgot is : humility, a trademark of all great spiritual peoples in my book, the ones who focus on helping others more than helping themselves ;-)

Benevolence is very similar to humility

unfounded7 saidAnd what's the point of being a better person?

A better person will be able to tolerate and understand people more. A better person will be willing to sacrifice and control his emotion provide appropriate and therapeutic interactions. Easy to say but very hard to do.

Nope totally different things...benevolence is loving others and helping others, humility is not putting yourself above others. There are so many wrong paradigms in your though processes. I suggest you read more about philosophy AND religion.

LOL.....are where did you get that from? Who is to say what you are saying is even correct. Humility= modesty. If you do not have benevolence you will not have modesty. They are inter-related.

Your lack of understanding of the English language doesn't cause me any stress - unless you were looking for a different word, which you seem to be doing often.

Wiki or other online sources are better than your opinion. I prefer statistic and written materials.

Its ok that English is not his first language, I do not judge him for it, but it seems every thread he participates in he contests everything anyone says and doesn't seem to get the jocularity here. Blocked, it's boring

If you do not have valid reasons then please do me a favor. Save me time from dealing with people with that type of understanding and attitude at such age.

Here are some thoughts of the top of my head. (Basically, part of how I approach self improvement.

Help without the expectation of payback.

    Recieve with grace.

Never let the want to learn become sated.

Let empathy and openess be the basis on which you veiw all living things.

Realize that the more sure you are of the acuracy, quality and quantity of your knowledge, the less you actually know.

Understanding that the true futility of striving for perfection should never stop you from trying. Perfection is the target, not the goal.

Unconditional love does not have exceptions.

Treat others as you would like to be treated, but don't be so arrogant to assume that they should want be treated the same way as you.

Exactly, it's like shut the fuck up nobody knows what you're talking about half the time so why are you trying to argue everything?
