This is why I always tell guys in person "man, you're CUTE as hell." Trust me, it's a compliment.

It's better than being called ugly or fugly. I know I use it as a "I'd like to get to know you and think you're attractive" term on occasion.

IceBuckets saidI used to have no problem with the word until I saw someone here describe their use of the words to describe someone "whose feelings they didn't want to hurt." icon_neutral.gif That kinda ruined my day.

I pretty much take that word with a tiny grain of sand these days.

Except for when I say it to you

Wow! I had no idea. I call guys cute when I think they're handsome but with kind of a young, fresh, masculine, energetic look. I always meant it as a high compliment. If someone says "Hot" there's a high sexual component which may be a bit aggressive and "Handsome" sounds a bit passive. Like a D&G laconic model. "Cute as shit" is a bit lecherous** (**see Trick). lol Guys. What's better than someone finding you the essence of young masculine? And that is a look that can last-- doesn't only apply to young guys.

When I say someone is cute, it means I think they are attractive with an endearing quality I find appealing.

I use cute to reference some guys but sometimes feel it's juvenile and potentially offensive even though I mean it as a compliment for their good looks. Definitely don't hear it much when you get older unless it's associated with an activity or a handbag...oh that's soooooo cute....fail! LOL

Obviously. I know you well enough to know your meaning - I'm referring to the randomites who might say it. icon_razz.gif

I love it when people call me cute. I mean, I know its because my face hasnt changed since I was 7 years old, but hey Ill take it.

They always say "You are just so cute!" right before pouncing me. Rawr!

Hell its a compliment, take it or leave it..icon_rolleyes.gif

I usually use the word "cute" on situations... Not on appearances.

    * like how a 5 year old kid confess "I'm shy to scratch your back uncle." - now that's cute!

    On appearance:

I rather use "You look Good!" or "Smart today" ..I don't really go by the puzzle I tell them straight!, I know there are guys don't like the word cute...I use Adorable or lovely. On elderly older people I love using words like Handsome or Pretty, giving them the feel, the vibe of young & new again. Trust me it does eventually help.

Like they say words can do lots of damage so as bringing that aid of good positive vibes in them. icon_wink.gif

No...It's goes with adorable. Both of those mean, 'I know you're interested, but I'm not, and I don't want to hurt your feelings.'. I'd rather be called good-looking. icon_eek.gif

Yes, please call me cute and never stop. Btw, when I think a guy is 'cute' that is WAY better than me thinking he's sexy or some other cheap work. It means I'm captivated by his unique charms. I love that.

Usually when I got called cute, it always felt like I was getting hit on... like maybe after a brief conversation, if someone just goes "You're cute" it feels rather significant, so yeah.

So in contrast, I don't recall really getting called cute in like a pitiful way or something... I'd imagine that might happen if I asked a girl for an opinion. She could lie and just say, yeah, you're cute (instead of using something more descriptive for example).

"Cute" is an ambiguous word. It can either be an innocent, half-compliment in the "awwww, you're adorable!" but not sexually attractive form. This is not desirable for most. On the other hand it can mean "damn, you're CUTE" in the intriguing, sexy sense. That's usually the way I compliment someone I find attractive.

Of course, when reading words on a screen, the meaning of cute can be unclear, hence some of the debate in this thread.
