Tom Daschle to BHO cabinet

  I'm a big fan of Tom Daschle and am pleased BHO has named him to Health & Human Services. He's a friend to the gay community. Though he voted for Defense of Marriage, he later was instrumental in the defeat of the Federal marriage Ammendment. Good guy - I had hoped for him as VP, am glad to see his appearance in the cabinet - not surprising, as he was a very early BHO supporter.

  Agreed. And I'm glad to see his return to Washington, after the Repubs targeted his South Dakota Senate seat and defeated him. Another bitter pill for them to swallow following this election.

  Really ... I am impressed with the people Barack is gathering together for his cabinet
  I know Daschle was being floated for Sec of State
  I think he is much better suited for this position

  Funny, GQ, I was just thinking considering Hill's many healthcare effors, HHS could have been the place for her! But I am truly a Daschle admirer in any case.
  
  There's been so much noise the past couple of days about Obama's "Clinton-oriented" appointments - as if Rahm Emanuel and Eric Holder (both close friends and allies of Obama) constitute a pattern, especially with the Hillary issue up in the air. And Tom D is definitely an "insider", in the best way.
  
  But I think as the long list of appointees fleshes out, we'll see more an more "newer" faces - though not necessarily at the very top of agencies, where we do need strong, accomplished people.
  
  I'd love to see the astute Sheila Bair of the FDIC move up - treasury, I don't know, but possibly. She's a clear thinker and has done well on her end of things the past year.

  CowboyAthlete, I started the BHO thing when it was the favored abbreviation on another site. In NYC the tabloids favor BAM = it has a certain energy to it, true, but makes me think of Emeril lagasse, which I'd rather not do.
