Why is RealJock so important to you?

  This place can be a madhouse. People bitching at the owners, the moderators, other members and the site in general yet they stay and/or keep coming back. Myself included. So I will go first.
  
  
  I leave when I get annoyed and the negativity starts to outweigh the positive. When I feel like I am being talked down to or feel the need to cuss someone out I accept that this is not good environment for me to spend my free time. As time goes by I do miss some of the guys and still hope for a site with a decent forum format for gay athletes.So I come back.

  RJ had two main points of importance for me:
  
  1) A place to find and connect with other jocks my age who also happened to enjoy cock to varying degrees; it reinforced normalcy and was one of my final steps in the coming out process
  2) A place to find and connect with a variety of non-heterosexual men, discussing a large number of issues I would hesitate to talk to anyone else about; I am grateful for the wisdom that younger and older men alike have shared
  
  Not really a fan of the trolling, bitchiness and fake-fighting (which often ends up being real fighting). I'm not really on the forums much any more because most of the people I've connected well with have provided other ways of communicating, free of the bullshit. I've come to accept that RJ has jocks, sure, but the most vocal (at least in this forum) are anything but jocks. I have a decent online and offline gay community now, but still lacking connection with a lot of gay athletes. I stick around and mostly lurk in the forums now once or twice a week in hopes that maybe some that post still exist on this site.

  Clearly it isn't because I'm a jock. I'd been aware of this forum for two or three years before I felt good enough about myself physically to even sign up. I have been hanging out in various forums for years so I lurked for a while and decided I could probably 'fit in', although barely (age, not being a jock, etc.)
  
  I don't have a lot going on in my life these days. I used to have a ton of gay friends IRL but don't so much any more. A few. I've become sort of anti-social IRL. So, at first it was a way for me to peek back into what gay men are thinking and doing without actually having to meet them. That's changed a bit. I've met a few RJers (nice guys) and have made a few on line friends. So, at this point, I feel like I'm here to add something when I can, be silly, occasionally let my mean girl out, and show some of the worst trolls the door. I don't mind bitchy cattiness or even silly insults (although that can get boring). What I won't tolerate is persistent abuse, like Sustenance.
  
  Being elected MOTD was cool. Now I feel like I'm known. I get it, some people like me and some don't. NP. Just like life. Now I just wish I could get Jmus and Pazzy to chill. I like them both and I understand their history… but it *is* history (I think). I also understand Scruff's aversion to Immunity. It's a trust issue. But these two examples are kind of the point…I don't *really* know these guys but it *feels* like I do; like they're characters in a play in which I'm a character, too.

  Met some cool people, showed off my abs, got laid a couple of times.
  
  Seriously, I use it simply for entertainment purposes. I don't get my workout ideas from here, and very few nutritional ideas come from here also. I enjoy the people and like hopping in discussions. Plus, it's hilarious to watch the same members go at each other over and over without realizing how silly they look. It's like reality T.V.

  When I first came here is was strictly for workout advice. I didn't become active in forums for about 2 years.
  
  I first got involved over Gay Rights issues. My delightful sarcasm and wacky one-liners seemed to strike a chord here and there...
  
  I now like to think of Myself as one of RJ's Classic Acquired Tastes - YES I am aware that I am not everyone's speed.
  
  I have become friendly with lots of Members and have met several in RL and - yeah - I have dated a few.
  
  I look at it as another social outlet. There is a lot of creative genius here and some truly great minds. Some Members I wish were still around. Some I could easily live without. All are worthwhile.
  
  I hate the amateur trolling that has recently dominated the site (I actually don't mind Incendiary - but He is a PROFESSIONAL). I abhor censorship more. HOWEVER - there are some that I can understand being banned. A few seem to be, shall We say "unhealthy" in their attitudes and motivations.
  
  And I don't believe that ANYONE here is in a position to dictate how another should run their life.
  
  I hope to continue meeting new, interesting Guys - and hopefully see the troll population decimated.
  
  Keep Your Friends close but keep Your enemies closer - they're easier to eat alive that way.
