Caslon8000 saidI am just watching the last season of Robson Arms.....it takes a while for it to get down to Virginia....and there is the gay couple, one older than the other. The older one, it was just revealed, had been married to a woman. She shows up at their flat. The older partner cancels a planned event with the younger one and some of their friends to spend time with this woman.

Now here is what struck me as odd. As the younger one was driving away, he was reassuring the older one that it was ok for him cancel. And he said to the older one something like "you two can reminisce about Lincoln's assassination."

Why would he reference an american historical event to joke about their "age" and long time association? Is there no iconic canadian historical event that could have served and conveyed the same sort of sarcasm?
well; he could've used a canadian event if the other two people were canadian.

    were they?
