I was just browsing some pix of San Fran and I have had fond memories of this scenic city. It was years ago and in my short stay, I saw heaps of beauty in the city. The hills and cable car and the water front .... Mmmmm

One more thing that really struck me are the Victorian houses. They are pretty and colourful, and I haven't seen so many so such cute houses in a city.

I have backpacked the USA five times so far in my life (in 1977, 1978, 1995, 1997 and 1998. Together with New York, the Grand Canyon, San Diego and Santa Monica, San Francisco has not failed to inspire me.
The 1995 visit there was the best one so far. I stayed at the Grand Central Backpackers Hostel on Market Street where my dorm had just two beds, and with the resident's kitchen, although rather small, on the top floor.
From the hostel I was able to hire a bicycle and ride around the city, taking in Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, the Balclutha, and I crossed over Golden Gate Bridge to Marin County. I also visited Union Square, Chinatown and Golden Gate Park. I took a ferry to Alcatraz, now a National Recreation Area. But my greatest joy in that city was at Pier 39, where I relaxed, watching the seals taking it easy at the Bay below.
And oh yes, at Market Street I saw two men exiting a toilet booth. I wonder what THEY were up to?
San Francisco was one place I decided to spend a week while travelling around the USA.
