I guess I'm dating myself big time but it was "Billy Jack". One of the first movies I ever saw in a theatre. I liked it a lot.

    :-)

A winner!!! Yep it's Billy Jack, featuring the estimable and inexplicable acting talents of Tom Laughlin!

Hey, maybe this should be our new flag...

Now, YVRguy, stop dating yourself and get a boyfriend!

Yeah, the HRC symbol is better. It could definitely be modified to look like a flag. Maybe make it 2 by 3 and have the equal sign longer so that each reaches the edge of the flag so that they can be stripes.

I had some jack ass at work ask me if it was the symbol of a military rank ... I was like, 'um, no, it is an equal sign, it stands for equality, are you not familiar with HRC? Look it up."

I have a pink triangle in my cube too. I use to have a rainbow flag up with the company across it, but it got lost in one of the moves.

The flag is fine. It's the background. It needs a black background to butch it up.

LOL. In this thread: A discussion about the rebranding of gays. Someone call Saatchi & Saatchi and see if they'll give us a free consultation.

bro4bro saidYeah I'm afraid I don't get what's "feminine" about it. It's a bunch of colored stripes. And it's not like they're pink or lavendar or fuschia or teal...

Among other things, it was intended to represent inclusiveness.

Wait - did someone say it was inspired by the Wizard of Oz? I always thought it came from this... ;-)

Bonus points to anyone who knows the movie!

It is said that the designer of the flag was partly inspired by Judy Garland's "Over the Rainbow". The Stonewall Inn was busy with mourners of Judy Garland's death leading to the Stonewall raids and riots. In "Tail of Two Sisters" featuring Liza Minelli and Lorna Luft, Lorna Luft talks about explaining to her daughter that the gay flag is a rainbow because of her grandmother.

wesv saidI'm sorry to say this guys, I never liked the rainbow flag. It's too San Francisco for me. It makes us all look feminine. I wish it could've been a better design.

In your opinion, what design would be better to represent gays?

A pink triangle against an azure background.

Maybe a blue background with two fingers touching eachother for men >< and a white flag with a pair of scissors for women. boom, won.

I knew it was "Billy Jack" just from the title of the song (which I didn't remember, I only saw it once in the '70s) and the screen cap.

I mean, aside from "Room 222" where the hell else could it've been from?

P.S. - Bonus points for whoever knows what this screen cap's from:

I've always hate that damn rainbow but for a complete different reason. The rainbow is used in too many other things and by making that the symbol it has ruined someone who simply might want a rainbow colored piece of clothing or umbrella. Now every time a kindergardener draws a rainbow with his crayon people are going to think it means something.

It's square. Flags look better when they are rectangular. The design would look odd.

I rather like the Rainbow. It's bright and cheery. Who wants a dour boring one that comes seems "preachy"?
