As a artist who draws anthropomorphic characters as well as humans, I wouldn't necessarily call myself a "furry" per say. I don't think I'm an animal neither would I want to wear a fursuit but I do enjoy the artistic side of it.
Growing up in the 90s where anthro cartoons were very prevalent. (Looney Toons, A Goofy Movie, Road Rovers, Biker Mice from Mars, etc.), I got very used to anthropomorphic animals. To me, I didn't see them as "animals" per say because they had personalities and traits you'd see in humans. This translated into my art because I thought they were such an interesting concept.
But would I consider myself a "furry", no, I wouldn't but I think they are entitled to what they like. It is a friendly enough subculture that means no harm.
