LeoSk saidThere is nothing after death. The soul is a construct made from fear of an end and from self-importance over the inanimate and nonliving.

OMG! Call the news reporters! A 20 year old from Texas has discovered all the facts about death and dying. Film at 11:00. icon_rolleyes.gif

In the sense that God has control over people, he's real, whether you believe in him, or think He's a construct.

I suppose if God is real then he's the gardener of the earth. All the plants and animals evolved and grew from the seeds He planted. He grew us out of tadpoles. But we, his most beloved and closest to him in our realization of him, and desperation to please him, have only been able to drop dead animals at his feet, wagging our tails, and trying to be good, while the whole garden has been destroyed by our dog gangs. God has no control over us. Hell is an empty threat, and heaven is just God's putting our pictures up in his house. It's just a shrine to his dead pets...icon_eek.gif

There's only one garden and one house, and we're just here to pee on the carpet.icon_razz.gif

Zigs_01 saidExtraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Well, there's plenty of evidence that humans are animals, and since most popular religions view our lesser brethren as soulless, I'd say that by default religion has inadvertently declared humans to be soulless.

There are a few esoteric religions that believe in animal spirits. They are just as bogus as other religions, but at least they are inclusive of the whole animal kingdom, rather than prejudiced against anyone below us on the food chain.

Where did you learn that "most popular religions view out lesser brethren as souless?" I was raised in one of the most popular religions and I was taught all living things had souls. The difference being man's was immortal.

Let's pretend animals can at least be reincarnated, just so we feel less sad about it.

most likely from the deployed airbags.

He had been ejected from the car he was laying face down on the highway

Must you be a know-it-all about everything? You don't know shit about what happens after death dude. Pretending like you do only makes you look stupid. Why can't you just accept the fact that there are many things about life we don't have the answers to?

Good thing he didn't wait until they got him to a hospital! You never see souls escaping from bodies there!icon_eek.gif

It may be that we have the answers, but we just don't want to accept them.icon_sad.gif

I do however like to imagine that life in an immortal dragon world is real, but I actually prefer more science fiction based theories of a creator. It seems like our creator would be an alien or a machine, rather than the Guy who said everything between big bang and humans is irrelevant, and whose love for us is conditional on our devotion to him.

There you go mixing religion with this topic again. You do realize the two are not synonymous don't you?

My mother waited until everyone was out of the hospital room, but the three of us adult kids, to pass on. Something very very strange occurred at the moment that she stopped breathing. It was as if her spirit or soul was hovering over her body for a few brief seconds before it disappeared. It wasn't a mist per se, but it was something. I can't really explain what I felt, but my brother and sister felt the same unexplainable sensation.
