Rah1875 saidNO surprise! Islamic countries HATE queers!
Please a bit of nuance. I have lived in Muslim countries for the last 7 years and have not had any problems. Clearly, there is a completely different set of rules that one must play by in order to function, but that about sums it up. The thing to know is that family and children are the primary occupation of everyone. So marrying outside of the religion or not marrying is frowned upon and in certain circumstances can get you into trouble. I know several gay men who are married with children and the family knows and simply turns a blind eye because the children thing has been taken care of. Also, a straight couple can get into trouble for PDA's. And yes, there are Muslims who hate us and want us dead, but news flash, there are white Americans who hate us and want us dead. Not every society evolves on the same time frame which makes it dangerous to make blanket assumptions about anyone or to apply our rules without nuance. It also negates the work of Arab activists who are working to change things. Also, it is important to make a distinction between what is actually dogma and what is tradition because many things that westerners see as "Islam" are actually culture and tradition. The face veils and burkas being prime examples.
