Again, not sure if a Food or Travel thread. But I think Travel, since we’re away here in Key West.

We’ve got the banquet table set up and dressed on the veranda overlooking Duval Street. His food is warming (previously cooked at home).

But one of our guests is himself a chef, operated restaurants in South Florida. We put him in touch with this hotel owner, who has multiple properties around Key West. Including 2 new restaurants in development, that our friend is currently working on opening. I toured one being constructed yesterday. The owner and his partner will be our guests here, too.

So he already surprised us with an artichoke salad (I love artichoke), that we’ll eat in a few moments as we all gather, and he’s using our suite’s kitchen to make other things. Not sure what, I think something broccoli that I also love, but whatever it is I expect to be wowed. And I thought we’d just be enjoying my husband’s great cooking. Instead we get 2 master chefs combining their talents!

And tonight, or tomorrow, we’ll go to “Michael’s”, a top-rated restaurant on the island with another friend of ours. Gawd, and they like to say life here is better. No, it’s fucking fabulous! LOL!

I know it's just my own anecdotal observation, but every person I know who talks about food as if it were some form of entertainment or who talks about food incessantly is either very noticeably or extremely overweight.

If he’s happy let him be. No need to be rude.

See? That's the thing. I don't think many of the people here are happy. Some people here either have a constant political axe to grind or they're fishing for attention. Or in this case, it's clearly both.

Trust me, whatever he "dished out" daddy has dished
10x more! So in the end, truth seems to burn the buns!

Thanks. I actually didn’t much care for eating for most of my life, a hyper little critter. I treated it as mere fuel for my body, with eating a distraction, no more enjoyable than having to stop and fill my car or motorcycle’s gas tank. It was a useful trait to have in the Army. In fact, even today I’ll eat standing up or on the run when not dining with others. But I’ve gradually come to appreciate the pleasurable social aspects of eating.

My late partner started to change my attitude, a great chef. I was retired by then and slowing down. I shifted gears and priorities.

And my current guy is also a wonderful chef. It pleases me to learn about food, try to help him. I’ve also discovered how many other gay guys are into cooking, with swapping recipes perhaps preferable to swapping bitchy gossip.

Disregarding the troll’s feigned “observation”, a thinly-veiled slam at me, I eat very little. Tonight we had a great meal at our favorite Key West restaurant, the owner/chef spending some time with us. Some years ago, at my suggestion, and I’m sure from others, and perhaps for other business reasons, he began offering half portions for his entrees.

That’s what I had tonight. And even then I didn’t eat all of it, my companions taking the rest. I only need a few forks to enjoy the taste, wonderful as always.

The weight struggle I have (and it’s not as bad as I sometimes make out) is due to the combination of age, reduced physical activity due to handicaps limiting my mobility, and necessary medications that depress my metabolism as an unfortunate side effect. Yet I still try to overcome those challenges by biking (even brought my bicycle with me to Key West), careful diet, and staying as active as my circumstances allow.

"Eats very little?" There is no one who talks of food as if it were some orgasmic experience who only "eats very little."

Oh and then there's the generous alcohol consumption. Those are just empty calories that put on the weight.

What was art's favorite booze of choice? Wasn't it Hennessy cognac while clacking away at the keyboard?

Notice how art didn't mention any of that or the bottles of wine he consumes while dining at posh restaurants with his roomie the chef and friends.

I think foodies need to slow down and take a break!
Food & Drink will kill you. Eat, drink and be merry for
tomorrow, you'll die, right? Well, that's exactly what
killed my dad 3 weeks ago. Excessive eating and back
in the day, drinking. Ease up, eat fresh and less processed
foods of all kinds. You might just live longer & have better sex.
Here in the USA the obesity epidemic is at an all time high!
Birth rates are falling fast and healthcare is rising faster.
Can we talk about a hard ripped bod and how to keep it that way?

It's hilarious how he overcompensates on "gay this" and "gay that" to somehow prove that he is an "A-star gay" on here. Is there any truth to what twomeninlove posts about Art Deco having been married to women (twice) and fathered kids with them? Seems like he has a lot of pent up remorse about his life.

Oh, daddy's a storyteller and is a master at condescending! All the Daddy stories are right from the dinner table conversation!!

Initially I never really paid much attention to Fart_Echoes. But overall, given that he is older than I am I extended a level of respect because that's what I was taught to extend toward elders. Occasionally I'd see him in some of the nastiest flame wars with different people on and off. I never paid it much attention but now after honing in on what he says around here I clearly see why this happens. He can be so FOS.

I spent three years in the USA whilst my husband was on a work rotation. Each of those years we got asked to one of his colleague's homes for the holiday. It seemed kind of odd to us, the menu being so rigidly set and some very odd foods like cranberries in gelatin, but one tradition I liked was when everyone round the table would speak of what they were thankful for. Does everyone do this or is it just a Virginia thing?

Fart_Echoes is in such denial. icon_lol.gif

Who here is the only user who posts constantly about his own little mundane unfulfilling life? Honestly, I start to read one of his long diatribes and give up after the first sentence. It's like a part time job trying to read everything that he says. I don't have time for it nor does it interest me. icon_neutral.gif

His Rose Coloured Glasses are so blinding. Showing everything in his life as a delusion of grandeur, in bona fide Lady Muck style. Going way back to his childhood, with his mummy and daddy.
