I Learned The Kansas City Chiefs Won Super Bowl LIV When Zippo Lighters Sent Me An Email. Really!

First thing in my mailbox before dawn this morning. I didn’t watch the game, except to tune in for the halftime show, I think the game was tied then. Then fell right back to sleep, I’ve been sick in bed all weekend, not sure I’ll be able to go out today.

But what Zippo sent me was an offer for their KC Chiefs Super Bowl Champions commemorative lighter. They sure didn’t waste any time. And they didn’t make Donald Trump’s error of putting Kansas on it, or even the correct Missouri.

Now Trump followers can buy them, too, as they must hereafter claim that the Chiefs are from Kansas. Because as we know, their own chief can never be wrong, the very stable genius can make no errors, tells no lies, nor can admit to any.

BTW, in case you’re wondering why Zippo sends me emails, it’s not because I’m an unhealthy chain smoker. Neither of us smokes at all.

It’s for our hurricane readiness, when the electricity can be out for extended periods and we’re lighting candles. Their new butane inserts, shown in this add, are very nice, I have the single torch version in one of our lighters. I buy direct from Zippo, the lighters personalized with my initials, prompting the emails. I also have an LED battery lantern from Zippo, as well, which is better than others I’ve seen.

And surprising considering it’s sold by a lighter company. But then they make lots of things for outdoor cooking, campfires and such. Diversify or die, when your market is changing. As it surely is for those connected with tobacco products.

I was aware that it was Superbowl Sunday, but I didn't know which teams played in it until I saw the threads on RealJock this morning.

You’re worse than I am! At least I sat up in bed for halftime, and then promptly laid down again, going to sleep. I think my last comment before dozing off was: “No Lady Gaga this year?” “NO!” he shouted back at me from his side of the bed, “Nobody ever mentioned Lady Gaga performing this year!” I may have mumbled “Oh...” into my pillow before nodding off for the night.

But I wasn’t sure of the teams, either, despite living in the greater Miami area, and the Super Bowl being in the news everywhere here for weeks. Although the constant barrage of stories mainly featured the local preparations, and almost hourly TV updates of the Sunday weather forecast. Which turned out as perfect as predicted.

And also about the 2 Latina megastars performing at halftime. To read about the teams themselves you had to go to the newspaper sports section, or the sports segment on TV news, 2 places I very rarely bother looking at.

I went to a neighborhood bar to watch the Super Bowl. It was an awesome game and I am so happy that the Kansas City Chiefs won the championship. During the third quarter it looked like the Chiefs were going to lose because they just couldn't get any traction and the 49ers were pressuring them left and right. However that one successful touchdown pass early in the 4th woke up a sleeping giant and it was the Chiefs all the wayicon_biggrin.gif

Glad you had fun! We just stayed home, I was still too sick to go out. icon_sad.gif

But I’ve gone to a lot of private homes for Super Bowl in past years. And those can be the best, especially with lesbians, since they seem to enjoy football more than the guys do. And do lovely things like give everyone imitation Super Bowl rings.

Of course just worthless junk jewelry, a novelty for the game, but a wonderful gesture. Now for my funniest Super Bowl moment at one of those parties:

All the lesbians were in the living room watching the TV. The gay guys were all in the kitchen cooking, not a one watching the game. The reverse of the stereotypical gender image of how these things go with straights.

Well all of sudden there was this incredibly loud shriek from about a dozen females, that made all of us guys in the kitchen freeze. One guy said he’d go out and check. He came back a moment later, and said with a swishy hand wave:

“Oh, it was just some footbally thing.” Everyone fell over laughing. One guy was just drawing out hot hors d’oeuvres from the oven at that moment and he almost dropped them on the floor.

Then one of the girls came in, in turn wondering what was going on with all our own raucous noise. We tried to explain, but still doubling over in laughter. We guys saw little of the game, really not interested, I can’t even remember the teams, over 10 years ago.

What I do remember was that it was a good party with friends. Watching a bunch of strangers running around a football field on TV was far less interesting to us. But the girls seemed to really have their eyes glued to the screen, and totally getting into it. While we guys were instead totally glued to... being with each other? icon_redface.gif

My husband was watching it live yet I never thought to ask who was playing, or who even won.
But then I do find the AFL more exciting to watch.
