So, only a fool would buy property near the coast in Florida or other low lying coastal communities. Apparently the price of land in Miami that is 17 feet higher than the average has been skyrocketing (As if 17 feet would keep you dry in a major hurricane, after the sea level itself has risen at the shoreline.)

We live in South Florida about 1½ miles from the ocean, elevation 10 feet. The river that runs beneath this office window is tidal. Meaning its flow reverses during the day. It now sometimes floods our neighbors’ lawns across from us, that it never did before.

But I doubt the rising water will affect us here during our remaining lifetimes. That’s gonna be somebody else’s problem. Apès nous, le déluge. Please forgive the reference in French. Does that count as a kinda pun?

There are pyramids bigger than Giza submerged in the waters off Cuba.
Florida has been a recognizable land mass above sea level for a relative blip in Earth history. The coast may move in.. or move out. More than likely, the entire state will look like the Keys at some point and you'll need a nice yacht and some high ground to enjoy it.

Florida has been above and below sea level throughout Earth's existence. The archaeological evidence shows this.

No need to cry "Climate change!!!" as this has been a cyclical process that has been going on since the beginning of time.

Except that the current “cycle” is not following the past patterns. It’s been accelerated by human activity.

But that’s OK, Florida's a Red State. And as it submerges wealthy Republican landowners along the coast will be losing money. And as it shrinks to the size of Delaware, its political influence will shrink as well.

The big losers will be people who want a warm, sunny beach vacation in the dead of Winter. Or maybe Winter will have gone away, too. So much for dreaming of a white Christmas.

“I’m dreaming of a hot Christmas
Just like the ones I never knew”

Fortunately I won’t be around to see that. That’s a pleasure you Gen-whatevers will get to have, while we much-maligned Boomers will have passed on. Leaving you with the problem. Enjoy! icon_biggrin.gif

Bob, you are living in one of the most stable and hospitable climate windows in all of Earths history, on a temporary peninsula paradise in the Caribbean Sea, with money to live comfortably, with a man who loves you. Maybe you deserve it. Maybe not. Not my call.
Maybe just take a deep breath and thank god for the timing of your birth because that is all that matters.

    I hope you deserved it
I hope I deserved it or am worthy of it.

You would never drown. Fat floats and given you got one hell of a fat ass you could easily serve as a life preserver for more than one of your fellow Floridians. Not to mention, all that hot air you're always blowing around with every turn you make. There's so much about you that would keep you afloat. We don't call ya Farty for nothing!

And to think, all this time I thought you were nothing more than a self-serving glutton shoving anything down his pig snout who willingly suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome.

    You're so much more......

Ahh, but how many "tonnes" of ice have been made by people's refrigerators in 23 years?
