I’m only 30, but I’ve always been told I’m an “old soul”. While most in my age range are probably listening to Cardi B and her newest song, “WAP”, I've recently been on a Carpenters binge.

I know they have a reputation for making really corny music, but Karen’s voice is simply beautiful. It’s a shame she died so young. I wish we’d have more real singers like her today. I love how she doesn’t over-sing, but her perfect pitch and warm tone just make her an incredible vocalist to me.

    Anyone else a fan?

Her voice was a slice of heaven. I agree. She was amazing and it's tragic she died so young.

Cardi B is ghetto black trash talking about her genitals. What else is new? So many of these HO's have no creativity or talent, for that matter, so all they can do is talk about "dey wet azz pusssaaaay!!" Total garbage.

There's a time and a place for a wide range of expression in art and music, including shock. Vulgarity with the sole purpose of cashing in is at the very far fringes of it. Ugly dark souls have the same right to reach out to others who are like them.

In that regard I lean towards beauty and harmony, innately, as you guys apparently do too; as 99% of humanity does.

Karen Carpenter's voice was unparalled. On a good system, you can hear her every articulation of words that emanate from her mouth. So much great stuff from the amazing lady. My personal fave:

P.S. - If their music is "corny", then I'd be eating cobs of it for weeks! icon_smile.gif

Karen had the voice of an angel. One I fell in love with from a young age.
Make belive it's your first time, I came across at about the age of 23, and feel in love with it instantly.

Make belive it's your first time, and I'll make belive it's mine. I have a number of their albums, and was devastated upon hearing the news of her death. I was blessed in my late 20's to of been introduced to her brother Richard, by a friend back then, who worked in the music industry.

Thanks to the OP for sharing., and Brian_RoXXX too. I'm about to go to bed, and think I play their music tonight, and fall asleep to ger voice, playing in the background.

    Likewise. Agree. Excellent post. Thanks.

Can't resist saying that despite the real and cold wars back then, it was a much saner world. When I was in the Navy either the Carpenters or an excellent knock-off group visited our base in Alaska. The concert was a much-needed morale booster.

You love the smell of my dick and balls and wish you could nestle in my crotch indefinitely.

But that's never going to happen. I'm not into fish.

Well put, M. I used to think it was just a "generation gap" thing. But biases' aside, you really can't even compare the songs of yesteryear to the utter crap of today.
At least this music has SOUL. Even though it isn't considered "soul" music. I think you know where I'm coming from.

I saw you one surrealistic video of her and her brother and frankly they look alien. But if you think now is wierd and challenging it really can’t top the 1970’s.

Well, Karen Carpenter obviously looked alien right before she died of anorexia, but the other alien thing you might be talking about is their 1977 version of "Calling Occupants Of Interplantary Craft".

When I think back on my high school years in Richmond, Virginia, my first thoughts are always of The Carpenters. I adored Karen Carpenter. I agree with all who praise her on here. I spent my life as a vocal coach in the field of opera. I tried and tried, mostly in vain, to get my opera singers to sing with the clarity and pureness of tone that was so natural with Karen Carpenter. There was never a single doubt about the words which came out of her mouth...both the diction of the words and the meaning. She sang from her heart and soul, but with an unmatched and unparalleled natural technical talent. Thank you for highlighting her here and reminding me of one of the truly good and beautiful parts of my youth!

Amazingly Karen never wanted to be out front, she was pushed out there. As Katen was more than happy, to sit at the back, playing her drums, and very well at that too.
Thank you for the music Karen; gone way to soon.

I agree, mate. I had forgotten about that until you just mentioned it! She used to be in the back ground on drums!
Alas, like so many great performers, they are gone before their time - but their music will always live on with us! icon_smile.gif

Very painful to read and watch what went down during the last years of her life.
She was really sick and it's a shame she didn't overcome her anorexia she was in total denial.
