Well there is a big chinese restaurant not far from my house called shanghai nights or something..
It's been closed for a long time. But in the entrance they have a big aquarium with goldfish.
The aquarium has no filter and is getting dirtier and dirtier. The thing is , those goldfish from what I can tell are not being fed. I want to call the owner and ask him if he plans on feeding the fish or if he plans on just letting them die. I have no idea how long goldfish can survive without food but I have to do something about it. It's obvious the owner just put the aquarium there for decor I mean it looks filthy now. I will leave a note on the door I guess asking if they plan on feeding the fish. Don't know what else I can do.

We had a gay bar & restaurant with a similar issue. It went out of business and the owners abandoned the place. It had a large fish tank, about 12 feet long, that a contract company used to service weekly.

The power company shut the electricty off, and in Florida the indoor heat gets terrible. I had friends tell me that when they peered inside the windows they saw rats running around the floor (I didn’t myself). We all wondered what would happen to the fish. The place remained locked & vacant for almost a year.

The eventual new owner found the fish all dead, and had the tank removed, never replaced. The club is still open, though like others struggling with the Trump Covid crisis.

You made the right moves. There may also be some animal rights group in your area, if this is in the US. Contact them as well.

But keep in mind, fish are kinda low on the sympathy chart. I’ve done a lot of fishing, eat them all the time (just this week, in fact). If we can condone tossing live lobsters into boiling water you may not find a lot of concern about the fate of fish, either.

You would never call it the Chinese Virus which is where it came from. Go ahead and give our raw rat and bat eating brothers and sisters who started it all a free pass and blame it all on someone else!

Dang, I'm completely convinced your TDS is incurable!

I am an avid aquarist and have been on and off for decades. Fish are very special to me. I feel your frustration. If I were in your shoes I'd try to get a hold of the owner and offer to take in the fish and care for them until things get better and then I'd offer to give them back when they can be properly care for.

Of course fish are beautiful and they make a room look amazing. It's really cruel to let their water quality degrade from utter neglect which makes them suffer a slow and torturous death. Poor filtration or no filtration leads to them literally choking and being smothered by their own waste.

You're so unhinged. You're not fooling anyone. You almost never can get through any topic without blaming Trump for something.

And speaking of whales, you're just as fat if not fatter than Trump.

I appreciate and share your concern. Some quick thoughts...

A neighbor of our animal shelter humanely caught a groundhog in a trap but left the animal in the trap for an extended time. This was in Maryland.

Most states have a Game, Fish, and Wildlife type agency with enforcement powers and an 800- number to report possible violations. We reported the trapped animal and an officer quickly responded.

Many states also have a web site where citizens can leave a message for the Governor's office. The staff usually refers the message to the correct agency, if appropriate. When I have used our governor's web site and left a message, I have gotten a quick, satisfactory response.

Thanks. I find it strange that the aquarium which is big for 5 small goldfish has no filtration system. The glass sides are becoming greener everyday. I suppose that's algae. I doubt they are feeding off that. By the way rob replied to "it" and I just saw it hurl another insult towards you did you put "it" on ignore yet and is there anyway I cannot see "it's" posts and slime trail?? I don't want to see anything from that slime on these forums.

I seriously doubt a call to the governor's office will help me notify the chinese owners of the restaurant in any way ..but I'll give it a try.
It looks like they just abandoned the place .

You are are a total scummy pile of shit.

We've all made it clear we put PhonySmart on ignore and what you do? You needlessly quote him to ensure I see what that slimeball is yapping about.

You are so fake with your, "C'mon, guys. Can't we all just get along?" plea bullshit. You love to stir the pot. I knew you weren't trustworthy and your childish little stunt, along with always going back on your word, REPEATEDLY all prove you're a useless little bitch.

You're a fucking asshole, a broke loser who sleeps in a twin sized bed in an efficiency apartment that's smaller than my dining room. It's clear the reason why you're life is so fucked up. No integrity, no spine and grossly immature for a man who should be about to retire but his broke ass can't afford to.

P.S. Venue? I just read this. So I'd act quickly if I were you. "Goldfish can go for as long as two weeks without food, experts suggest, but just because they can, it doesn't mean they should".

I will leave a note and if I don't see any movement on their part I will call the animal rights group.

Unfortunately the timing of this will likely land it way down on the list of municipal concerns.
While not suggesting nothing can be done, or should be done, they are probably ok for a while.

I'm only saying this to make you feel a little better about the situation. Goldfish are particularly tolerant of conditions. I would think that room temperature is the biggest concern, but they've survived the summer now without air conditioning. Cooler weather will only make them more comfortable and boost the oxygen levels in the water.

Good thing the tank is in the window or they likely would be dead by now. I'm almost certain they are eating the algae. You can confirm with a closer look at the glass. Most fish will graze algae as a healthy secondary or even primary food. Additionally, as the algae grows out it will provide shelter to blooms of micro crustaceans, a nice protein source from nature. Assuming they don't start breeding, the five fish could live comfortably for a while in equilibrium with the biome.

They are pets though. As jocked_and_loaded and I discussed in an ancient thread on Bettas, fish are people tooicon_wink.gif. Remember that one A.? They appear to have emotions and bonds with both humans and other fish. Hopefully the outcome won't be worse than a temporary return to a more feral existence. It would be cool to see the reaction to being cared for again. I'd expect to see a quick return to some exuberant, joyful behavior when that happens.

Hope I am right, based on info provided. And I'm glad you're on it venue35

Just answered both of your messages, M!
And I agree with all you say here.
I had a fish tank and when it was feeding time, and the fish saw me enter their space, of course they all rushed to the top to be fed.
But I also had a pregnant female guppy, and feeding time or not, she would swim to the top of the tank each time I was near it, and I would put my pinkie finger into the water, and she would allow me to stroke her!!!! She swam back and forth brushing up against my finger!
I don't know if it gave her some relief, but it just went to show that even small animals are capable of thinking and feeling just like us humans!
    Talk to you later, M.

Yep, and some are quite creative at getting your attention. I had a Niger Trigger once that would spit across the room at me. And with precision too. It would usually land right on my face, or on the book I was reading. I suppose I trained it to do this with positive reinforcement. Being so amused by the behavior, I'd usually respond by coming over and giving him a treat or a little affection.

LOL! He SPAT at you? That's so cute! Are these fish anything like archer fish?

    ----
Only in regard to that behavior. The trigger is a notably expressive reef fish with a great personality. He displayed dramatically altered colors depending on mood. Excited, to happy(in the sunlight), to angry at a bullyicon_twisted.gif The Archers, I believe, spit as a feeding strategy, targeting above water insects. Perhaps they do it for sport in an aquarium environment. They definitely share the trait of accuracy.

Brian, you might also appreciate his tendency to thwart bullying. He was quite a peacemaker. He'd run interference in squabbles, separating combatants. And he was extremely tolerant of bullying against himself... until he wasn'ticon_twisted.gif Usually just ignoring it as a minor nuisance, until a tipping point when he'd go inflict unmerciful damage on the aggressor. Then within minutes he was peacefully ignoring him again like nothing had ever happened. No grudge. No duel to the death or domination. Just knock this shit off or I'm gonna come hurt you.

I don't get what or who you're talking about, M?
When I likened the chameleon to someone, I think you might have thought I was talking about someone else.

Nothing to do with that or even a thread. Remember, I'm always a page or two behind you... lol
It was just about a fish and some likable behaviors.
