L.G.B.T.Q. People Face Increased Risks From Covid, but Many Don’t Want the Vaccine

Evidence suggests that some sexual and gender minorities — especially people of color — are hesitant to be vaccinated because of mistrust of the medical establishment.

What's most interesting about this post is the rather cryptic "99" that the mettabot has posted. Hmmmm......

I recall during the Gay Plague Era, gay men rejecting the medical advice of using condoms, and safer sex.

I rarely ever use the alphabet soup and when I do I only refer to it as LGBT...as I absolutely hate the word "queer" and find it degrading and offensive. May as well just add an "F" too. I know it's an age thing, and the younger generation doesn't see the word "queer" as bad, but when I was growing up and coming out, calling someone queer was used mostly in derogatory fashion. I just don't find it necessary because "gay" pretty much covers it

    I only ever use G.L.B.
And put us Grays in front, because we did the majority of the hard slog, of advancement, that the lesbians, and bisexuals benefited from.

I also like the concept of Full Stops, to highlight we are not one community, but many different tribes.

Interesting how you frequently refer to gays in the third person ("the" gays), as homophobes do. As if you aren't a part of that LGBTQ picture yourself. A community about which you seldom have anything good to say, nor any of its more prominent members & supporters.

Bob don't forget your many years of looking down on us homosexuals as being dirty and beneath you.
All because you seen your self as a "real man!" Cough, cough.

Thus couldn't possibly be one of us.
Eventhough you never were, being a bisexual. Who's lived most of your long life as a married breeding heterosexual. Until you made a lifestyle change, to live as "a gay."

I'm gay...so you perceiving that I am potentially a "homophobe" is absurd. When I said "the gays" it was referring to the NY Times story...yet another load of drivel painting some minority, and often times the gay community specifically, as "victims" of one thing or another. I'm not a victim...are you?

As far as what you refer to as the "LGBTQ Community"...I'm a gay guy living in a mixed "community". I hate labels if you want to know the truth. I know like 2 lesbians...zero trans people...and I loathe the term "queer"...and I do not partake in pronouns...sorry, I'm just not all that woke I guess. So how I fit in the alphabet soup means nothing to me whatsoever, or I could not fit in it at all. Don't care.

Oh? And what about the dots? You just forgot all about them and you're calling someone else a monster?!

And that's an ellipsis, not dots, so be inclusive of them, too!

    Thus I propose:

    "L/G,B;T… ~Q.`'

The colon I included after "propose" (subtle, I know), but dash recognition will have to await the addition of another letter.

Consider the relevance of the ellipsis on the spectrum, leaving room for all others (yes, even the underscore).

The next great debate will be over the "...' mismatch.

Which is the prime symbol, anyhow, apostrophe or the single quote?
Should the period come before or after the apostrophe? Even after the single quote?

    These are beyond me. icon_sad.gif

The New York Times has always been woefully behind the curve due to their own misguided notion of "correctness". In the 1950s they refused to carry any stories involving homosexual issues, and they famously prohibited their writers from using the word "gay" until 1987.

How soon we forget. See the New York Times from 09/16/2020. Biden campaigned on distrust of Trump and a "Rushed Vaccine." Is it any wonder that Democrats' core constituencies distrust it?

Biden, Seizing on Worries of a Rushed Vaccine, Warns Trump Can’t Be Trusted
    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/16/us/politics/biden-trump-coronavirus-vaccine.html

Thrusting the issue of a coronavirus vaccine to the center of the campaign, Joe Biden said he trusted vaccines, but not a politicized development process. His comments came as the president publicly rebuked the top federal scientist.

With deaths from the coronavirus nearing 200,000 in the United States, Joseph R. Biden Jr. on Wednesday assailed President Trump for playing politics with a potential coronavirus vaccine, saying he did not trust Mr. Trump to determine when a vaccine was ready for Americans.

“Let me be clear: I trust vaccines,” Mr. Biden said. “I trust scientists. But I don’t trust Donald Trump, and at this moment, the American people can’t either.”

Really unfortunate, I know in Kansas , I will go running to get the vaccine when my time comes (and it should be soon). My boyfriend already
has been vaccinated since he's a State employee. No any hesitation here. I'm ready!

Blacks are far more likely to distrust the vaccinations and they're predominately Democrats. Perhaps in your almost exclusively white neighborhood, white conservatives are more likely to distrust vaccinations, but it's also true of racial and sexual minorities (who by and large, aren't members of the GOP).

    https://www.psychiatrictimes.com/view/black-americans-distrust-covid-vaccine

"A nationwide Kaiser Family Foundation survey1 found that in December of 2020, 35% of Black Americans stated they definitely or probably would not get the vaccine. This was a significantly higher percentage of reluctance compared to all other ethnic counterparts surveyed. The revelation of this study, in a similar vein to the rest of 2020, reflects a much deeper problem within our society. Many Black Americans distrust the American medical system."

Let's recall early on where the vaccine conspiracy theories were coming from and once started they are hard to erase.

    Oct 19, 2020

Cuomo’s answer, like Harris’s, made no sense. For months, he and other Democrats have been urging the American public to trust health experts — except on this, evidently. Should we not trust that the health experts know what they’re doing when developing and testing a vaccine? Should we not trust the process that has been put into place for this very purpose?

What Democrats don’t seem to understand is that you can’t pick and choose which parts of the system to trust. The skepticism they’ve sown now will not simply disappear if Joe Biden becomes president. The public will remain hesitant because they now have a reason to distrust the entire process.

Moreover, Democrats’ fearmongering about Trump’s role in the approval process is nonsense. Yes, he’s been pushing the process forward — as any president facing a global pandemic would. We need a solution, and we need it quickly. But just because he’s cutting through red tape that ordinarily slows the bureaucracy down does not mean he is circumventing the testing process to which our entire government is legally bound. The FDA cannot suddenly decide to release a vaccine because Trump says so. It must be thoroughly vetted, tested, and studied before the experts even think about distributing it. This process remains the same regardless of who is president, and Democrats know it.

There is no excuse, explanation, or justification for Democrats’ anti-vaccine conspiracy theorizing. It is reckless, and it will hurt this country as we continue to take the next steps forward.

As a gay man, I genuinely do not know what the "i" stands for in LGBTQIA+. I'm not even sure of the "A" but I'm assuming it stands for asexual?

For fuck's sake, why don't we just include the whole alphabet already? I remember when I was in high school we had an "LBG" club. And I'm not even that old...
