I'm thinking about going to Hawaii for a week over Christmas. It's funny,I've landed on the Island a few times but never got off the plane. I know all the obvious "traps" so I'd love to hear from locals and others that know the Islands well. How gay is Honolulu? Any advice would be great. Looking at the 22nd Dec-1st Jan. All studs welcome.hahaha

Actually I'd like to hear more as well. Have been seriously thinking of a vacation like this with my bf.
There are probably more on this site that would like the information.

My partner and I visited these fabulous islands for ten days this past Feb. Hawaii is incredible and very gay friendly. There are a few gay venues at the southern tip of Waikiki, namely Hula's "the" gay bar in Oahu. There is Queen's Beach for a little clothes optional beach time and Fusion for after hours. All of the islands have some aspect of gay life if you are willing to look for it and don't have set expectations. The big Island of Hawaii has a quirky little bar in Pahoa and the boys in Kaui do private dinner and cocktail parties.
Just remember that the magic of the islands is in the natural setting and the true "Aloha Spirit". The gay scene is merely a sideline which could be experienced much more fully in Key West, Provincetown, San Francisco etc.But my feeling is that you must experience the beauty and awe of these incredible islands in your lifetime. You'll love them! Aloha and happy travels!

Well said, Explorer. I'm from the island of Kauai, and unfortunately there are no gay bars or clubs. Most gay people hang out at Donkey Beach and also the beach at Lydgate park. And as Explorer said, many gays do dinner/cocktail parties.

The islands are pretty gay friendly and there are a lot of fun things to do and see. On Kauai, go to Waimea canyon, take a boat ride up the Wailua river, take a helicopter or zodiac ride around the island and witness the beauty of the Na Pali coastline.

I think it's also worth exploring the grounds of the major hotels. They are so beautifully maintained and very romantic. Have cocktails at the Hyatt Regency in Koloa, lunch at the Sheraton Princeville (absolutely fabulous!) or hang out at Kalapaki beach at the Mariott Hotel.

Explorer also gave some great advice for Honolulu too. Hula's is really fun and so is Queen's surf. I'd also recommend Mai Tai's at sunset at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. You can experience the torch lighting ceremony and a beautiful Hawaiian sunset at the Mai Tai bar, where Mai Tai's were invented. (not to mention all of the gorgeous surfers returning from a day out on the waves.)

Being that you'll be there during the winter season, you may experience some rain, but it is still very beautiful.

Have a great time. - Jorel

Aaaaah.. Hawaii. Beautiful place and very gay friendly. There are lots of gay owned B & B's, Hula's is fun and there is plenty of eye candy to behold!

My favorite beach is Secret Beach on Maui. It's a nude beach, not stricly gay, quite a hike to get to but worth it.
